I do run a heat mat in the winter time under my clones and seedlings with a temp controller. (75°) It certainly helps them germinate/root faster and I find they grow more vigorous with a bit of warmth.(not heat).
Necessary.... Not really.

i use a heat mat for rockwool clones and a aquarium heater for the turbo cloner in winter, very important ! :weed:

I do use a heat mat, and in winter more, but I have a timer for it and never use it all the time for germination.

I use it and its 10c outside and in me shed the bottom of the pots are 23c , with lights out. So very helpful.
