Lighting: CFL 80w High output 250w Philips is the one you want, Get a dome with 2 trays a solid and a lattice, get a thermostat heatpad, some cloning gel and some beneficial bacteria powder, Great White Beneficial Bacteria is the one you want, and Clonex is fine for cloning gel,
Rockwool cubes, sharp scissors and rooting powder. I use a 2w LED for cloning. You could use a $2 CFL from Walmart and it would work great. Walmart sells a 2 watt LED for $7.
With all due respect, I don't use a dome, gel, high power lights, heating pad or any microbe powders. Its all stuff grow shops will sell you. Even the cloning powder is not necessary but it does speed up the process by a few days.
I would steer away from a LED the technology just isn't there yet and have seen plants fail later in there cycle after been cloned under a LED, And for rockwool a definite NO, It is 100% FIBREGLASS use white peat, a Brand named Easy plugs is great already PH and EC Adjusted,
Some people will try and over do their cloning methods. In my experience you don't need a heat pad at all or any fancy aeroponic cloning systems as they are all unnecessary and a simple tray and dome will work just as efficiently. I use a 2 dollar plant tray with no holes in the bottom, a less than 5 dollar plastic dome (dont remember the price), some rapid rooter cubes that are around 15 dollars for 50 cubes (I have also used cheaper cubes and had fine results but personally i don't like rock-wool because of how large the cubes are and the price), and clonex gel (17 dollars). I get roots in less than 2 weeks 100% of the time. I just set the cloning tray in the corner of my veg room and that works fine for me. Keep it simple is the way to go, no need to complicate an extremely easy process!
I always make sure that the ambient temp is warm but honestly ive never tried the heat pad, maybe ill have to try one out. I have not seen the turbo cloners but I assume that its just like the expensive aeroponic cloners? Ive made my own cloner out of a bucket and a pump and some pvc and had alright results, but I found it to be way too much work to get around a 70% success rate. Does the heat pad speed up the rooting time? Right now I get roots in around 10 days so I cant imagine it could get much faster than that.
Really depends on your strain hard to say because im unsure of your strain, but I find that it slightly improves mine by 1-2 days, I have one of these turbo cloners, and yes it is just basically a aeroponic system, could of maybe made one myself a bit lazy haha, but im getting strikes in 7 days, with a strain that usually takes 10-12 really impressed thus far
CDUB nailed it, keep it simple and even ambient light will get the job done.
For whatever reason I have much better luck with rockwool than with rapid rooters even though I have been wanting get away from rockwool.
LEDs are the best technology for vegging and cloning but crappy chinese mass produced lamps are not any better than fluoros. For cloning you can use stuff like this and save significant electricity:
Pic taken before I started my first cloning try, propagator, Rockwool cubes, Clonex rooting gel, glass of room temp water just boiled, razor blades, mister bottle. 2 weeks later---rooted---good luck
