It would be great to have a unit converter implemented in the forum

Hi dear RIU admins,

I am loving EVERY bit of this forum. I joined a couple of days ago and I cannot stop coming here again and again and reading stuff. You really seem to have a good friendly environment going on here.

I am a first time grower of medical cannabis (and of cannabis, for that matter), so I am posting a lot about my insecurities and fears as a 1st time grower. Doing this I have to convert my units all the time so more people can understand what I am writing about regardless of their location, so I have to get my calculator every time and translate units (temperature and length), which consumes a lot of time and stalls our writing creativiy :lol:. Sometimes I've seen in forums that when you try to type something it links your words automatically to something frequently used in that forum (I don't know how it does it, but it does it). So I was wondering if it would be possible to add an automatic calculator which converts units between parenthesis as soon as you write something like "20 inches". It would also work to have a small box with a unit converter just below the thread writing box. This unit converter should be able to convert temperature and length units (fahrenheit to celsius and viceversa and cm to inches and viceversa).

That would be just PERFECT and it would increase the speed of creating posts by A LOT.

Just an idea.

Thanks a lot for this website.

neet idea...I just plop the numbers into the google search box in firefox...you just put in like "123cm to ft" and it gives you the answer...same for temperatures like "12c to f"

[h=2]12 degrees Celsius = 53.6 degrees Fahrenheit[/h]

Yes, I have to do that too and then type it by hand on the thread. But it bothers me to have to do it every time (maybe it would be easier if I'd stop being lazy

).
Anyway, it would been a great thing to implement, because some people do not bother to convert their units and it would make their threads more understandable for everyone and easier for posters if it would be an automatic process :)

Peace!

That's a good idea, but I don't know if we can implement it here. I'll check into it.

:mrgreen:

Would definitely need some ingenious coding done to filter the database result to look for measurement looking blocks of text and insert an html dropdown menu afterwards with all the conversions it would be...sounds like an aweful lot of processing power to have it churn through every last post that was presented to the user...if it was prefiltered when the posts were made that could be an option...

I agree, I have no idea how these things are done (although I did some programming years ago). Just thought of the idea ;)
