Hey all
I've been growing in a close for a bit over a month, but I've had problems with really slow growth most likely in relation to high temps (closets are on top floor directly under roof, technically attic's I suppose) and low reflectivity. Yesterday I switched over to a 54gallon rubbermaid tote with hopes to better control the environment and increase reflection/efficiency. The reflections all good, but I'm running into even hotter temps than before. I only got three plants of Ice in there right now and two of them look a little weird, but they have since the get go so I'm not too concerned. The oldest one is a beauty.
Theres some pictures, but what I've got is 4 100w equivalent cfls hanging form the top and 2 60W on the side right near the plants. Had more lights but when the temps were over 100 yesterday I turned them off and concentrated the plants on one side.
I've got a desk fan in there and a opening behind and above it (the above is on the top right next to the light panel. Theres also a small exhaust on the opposite side of the panel that may be tough to see in the pics because of the brightness. I also propped the top up to create space between it and the bottom for more air to get in.
Right now the temp is 81 inside, 77 outside. That temp is the lowest its actually been. I think it's because its only been on 2 hours and its cool outside (I also moved the angle of the fan this morn to try and get it to blow more on the lights and then out maybe that did something.) Anyways, by the end of the day yesterday it was hovering at 95-97 about 12 hotter than the outside and I'm guessing it will heat back up in a few hours (especially once the sun hits the roof)
I know theres some folks with rubber maids on here and I've been looking to see how they solved heat issues so I'm thinking of getting a small fan for exhaust but I want to know of some better ideas any of you might have. Thanks.
Also got some slight yellowing of the bottom leaves. I've read that its completely natural for those to die and fall off, but they all went yellow at the same time, despite the older one being about 4 days older. It's hard to get a clear closeup on my camera, but I think you can see what I'm talking about form the pics I posted. The big one also might have some yellowing on the next lowest leaf set, but it could be my imagination, but its certainly lighter shade of green than the rest. I gave them a little water maybe it will fix it.
woah, sorry that was so long, thanks for taking the time to read and help
