is this in-line fan too big?

I have 8 inch air intake and an 8 inch air exhaust vent installed in my room, my hoods are vented 8 inch hoods. I was planning on getting an 8 inch inline fan, that way everything would be 8 inch. But I found a good deal on a use 10 inch fan. Would there be any problems going from an 8 inch intake, to a 10 inch fan, back to 8 inch ducting? I am thinking of getting a speed controller to be able to slow it down. Any problems here or should I stick to the 8 inch and use the 10 inch used fan somewhere else? Thanks.

If the 10 inch is in good shape then you might as well use it. It's probably stronger than the 8 inch. The speed controller will let you fine tune it and turn it down when the lights are off, a 10 inch inline fan isn't that quiet. :)

I have used a ten inch inline fan with 6 inch ducting. The fan worked hard but it did work.I dont suggest cutting the diameter that drastically, but going from a 10 to an 8 wouldnt be bad

Not too big at all...you can usually get 10inch-8inch fan ducting/coupling/adapters at your local indoor garden/Hydroponics supply shop.

check that the cfms are actually higher some 8s are really close to their 10" so it might not be worth the time and money
