Is this dangerous for an under-aged boy...?

This is something I have thought about for some time. A friends little brother, Alex, 14 years old, has done this for 2 years now. Every christmas and summer he smokes some weed with his best friend. He is a very smart boy, so I really want him not to become a lazy dummie. I have heard, that that is what weed does to teenagers. I know, it propably wont do shit to him if it stays in a couple of times a year, but I would be really happy to be sure about it and hear your opinions about this. :)

my 19 y/o nephew is a year into college with outstanding grades both in hs and college, plays sports, is a lifeguard, and has his shit together. even has a savings account with thousands of dollars in it he saves for college. he's smoked weed for a few years now.

lumping everyone in with the dummies that are simply looking for a reason to hang every bad decision and choice they made on something other than lack of responsibility...is an injustice.

You are totally right about that, but I have heard shit like "weed makes you not remember everything", and I can understand that you might get problems with memory if you smoke 15 joints a day, but I suppose that if Alex only smokes couple of times a year, memory-problems wont be a problem for him?

Well, I hope that everything goes the same way with Alex...

You're not going to find the answers you need just from asking a few people. The effects of cannabis on young brains is being studied constantly. Have a read of this:

Yeah there may be people who do well in life. I have 3 degrees, a professional job and use cannabis. That doesn't mean I'm going to bury my head in the ground and tell anyone letting a kid smoke cannabis is a good idea. The current evidence is that regular use drops kids IQs by about 6 points and kids that smoke do worse than kids that don't. I'm not talking medicinal use here, I'm talking purely recreational. But does that apply to occasional cannabis use twice a year? We don't know.

I will not let my daughter smoke until she is 18 and then it becomes her choice. Drinking is also banned for what it's worth. There's plenty of time to get fucked up in college.

like anything else mind-altering, you have to have perspective for it to be meaningful. while age isn't a sole determinant of perspective, it's a step in the right direction. i have ADD, and who knows, it could have helped me when i was a kid, but i didn't smoke until i was 24. i just wasn't interested in it when i was a teen, i only cared about wrestling/track/chicks. after spending too much time in the persian gulf, i was on my way back, think i was in UAE and i saw a 4 foot tall solid brass 4 hose hookah/bong. then i said, ya know, after all the shit i've been through over here, maybe it's time. i bought 2 of those bitches.

Well, Alex has always been interested about drugs. He has watched documents, read articles and books about diffrent drugs, etc... but that is kinda good so he won't even try shit like heroin or meth since he also knows the risks.

the fact he's so interested in drugs might be cause for concern, but you know him and i don't.

I know plenty of successful smokers. This board is an example. A lot of retired smokers here.

Cannabis doesn't make you lazy or stupid. I hunt, fish, hike, grow my own food, run a business and now getting into rental properties. I walk everyday and lift weights a few times a week.

Pot doesn't harm your mind. Some studies actually show promise for the treatment of Alzheimer's and brain injuries. It is believed that certain cannabinoids protect the brain.

Where the whole pot making you dumb from? Well pot does affect the transfer of short term memory to long term. It clears up when you quit smoking.

Its not much of a problem though. My wife can't stand me at times. I'm anal about things. The military dies that to a person.

So I put things in the same spot. As an example, I out foam in my tool box and every socket, wrench, screwdriver, every tool has an individual slot cut. It allows for rapid tool inventory.

Eat right, drink plenty of water and exercise and the negative effects are minimal.
