I’d lay a grill over that & grow in fabric pots on top. I wouldn’t plant in that if it’s sealed inside.

Meaning a concrete box with a sealed floor would have poor drainage I'm assuming.

So the floor(bottom) actually connects to the soil outside the bricked area. Would that still be poor drainage?

That is the best of all worlds,the concrete will mitigate huge swings in temp.you want them in there man.pile up the soil for sure

If it's been there awhile and the soil you're on isn't really high in clay content you're in great shape. Either way for a couple autos you should be fine in the box. If I was doing it with some big photo period plants I'd be more concerned about the quality of the soil under the planter as the root mass would be more likely to expand down into it.
