Is this a reverse osmosis filter?

I can get my hands on a water filter but am not sure its the right sort. :wall:

It's basicly a cylinder and its filled with some sort of resin, you link up the water from your tap to the cylinder with a hose and the filtered water comes out the other end.

No. Sounds like a basic carbon filter.... RO filters have several stages, Carbon, Sediment and than a Osmosis membrane, and sometimes Deionizer.
 
thanks shrubs, I have done some research and I think that its part of a RO system this is what I read

Mixed bed resin de-ionisation tank polishes water from holding tank at point of use to deliver 100% pure window cleaning water to the water-fed poles.

does anyone know the effect of using de-ionised water?
