Is this a dumb idea?

Ok, here's the plan.

1 buy some auto flowering seeds

2 germinate seeds

3 plant seeds in small cups

4 transfer plants to 3 liter soda bottles with tops cut off

5 when they show gender, leave the males in with the females

6 harvest a bunch of seeds and some usable smoke/hash

7 repeat steps 1-4

8 separate boys from girls

9 harvest lots of bud.

rationale-since the plants go straight from seedling to flower, I can't take cuttings from a female during veg. As I understand it these autoflowering plants have to be grown from seed. This way, I won't have to keep buying seeds once I find a strain I like. When I'm low on seeds, I can just make more. Am I missing something?

You'll waste a lot of time and money growing your own seeds. Those males are displacing females. If I'm taking the risk of growing - it is for bud, not seeds, which I can easily buy any variety I want.

Concentrate on growing some bud would be my advice.

i agree

also auto flowering strains dont go from seedling into flowering

they still follow the normal veg/flower cycle. the reason they are called auto flowering is because they have a hormone that forces them into flower when the plant is ready instead of waiting on the light cycle to change like normal plants.

that being said they cant be cloned. i do kind of agree its a bit of a rip off having to buy auto seeds over and over again.

and why 2 liters? you cant go buy a decent pot? thats not enough room for the roots. the plants will grow for sure but you wont be getting the optimum yield.

It's tough, but if you wanna go pro with growin and havin your own strains, the best of luck to you.

I'd go with something a bit larger than 3 liter soda bottles... how bout 5 liter water bottles.

One more thing, after you've gotten your seeds, make sure the grow space is clean and there is absolutely no pollen left. I say you can pull it off nicely and I'd like to hear more on this after you've harvested your seeds. May try this to if it works great for you.

if i were you i would grow only females in my grow room. you can grow a male somewhere else and collect pollen off of it. then you take the pollen and brush it on a branch of the female plant. then that branch will give off plenty of seeds

then id still clean my room after this
