Hi, I am new to the forum and to growing. My question is this. Can you chill your res to much? I have a home made water cooler turned chiller and my temps on the highest temp setting is 45f.. I know most say 68f is best so if true then ill just set a timer on it and get the temp right.. Will it hurt or benefit sitting at 45f? I have 2 fine bubble air stones on a 4watt pump in a 5 gallon bucket so I already get a very nice amount of DO. I was just curious though cause I lost my first plant to root rot as my res shot over 80f for one night and when I woke the damage was done. So the chiller was a must cause a bottle every 2 hours wasnt gonna work through the night lol.. O and yes I know copper is bad so I went to hobby lobby and got some plastic resin and completely incased the coils and used a rubber hose with 100% silicone for the line so I can still bend it when needed. Anyways is a 45f res good or bad?

lol i played with temp controller last night and my temps got down to 28f and was foaming instead of bubbling. I then noticed ice forming on the netpot.. So now chiller is on timer lol.. keeping it in the mid 50s now.. plant DID NOT like the 28f lol..

Mid 50? Way too cold. I would not advise getting it below 60

Google Ranco temperature controller. It is a digital temp control with a waterproof remote sensor. You can set it for heating or cooling and adjust the bandwidth, etc. I have one on my DIY chiller. Works flawless. It's about $50 or so
