Is our government really this hard up?

Does anything good ever come from a letter from the IRS? I got one in my mailbox today and about shit bricks until I got home to open it.

The IRS is coming after me for not claiming stock(s) and the profits from them. I wasn't even aware I owned any stock, or if it was any of their fuckin business. Apparently my wife got a 1$ stock from her brother as part of a promotion from a major stock trade site 2 years ago.

The stock was 1$, they are worried about a $1 stock. The stock is now worth $2 lol. Double the investment back after 2 years, what a lucky stock. I got more mad that we didn't buy a shit load of the stock than I was at the IRS for wasting our time.

They demand I contact them and want proof of the stock, which I thought they already had (being they found proof of the stock and are writing me about it). Apparently I got some major gains from this stock that they couldn't do without their share of, so I ask ARE WE REALLY THIS HARD UP?

My wife is cashing out the stock so we have the money to pay the penalties.

Im not a tax attorney or anything, but I am guessing unless you had about 5,000+ of those $1 stocks you'll be fine.

Good luck though, that sucks.

We are trying to figure out what percent the goverment makes from stock profits, I am pretty sure the $1 should cover it.

The only thing I thought would be a danger was them demanding I send them evidence of my guilt lmao.

So, the government wants you to pay taxes on a stock that you still own?

Sure.

I finally got my tax refund that I mailed in May and forgot to include my wife's W2

still waiting for mine. incidentally, they can see your wife's W-2 information and really don't need it not sure why they would hold it up for that. I had ACA that required a form so that's been my hold-up but responded in July so soon hopefully for me.

did you get the stimulus?

I don't think it was held up, they said it was gonna be September before they started processing the mail-in returns
