Is it worth saving?

I just got a very small and what looks like a very weak little thing that I'm trying to save. I've been reading through this forum and it looks like I could find some help here. I've put it under 18/6 hours of light and spray it with water about 2-3 times a day, the pics are taken probably every 4-5 days and I can't say that the plant is doing to well so I ask you guys who obviously know more than me on this subject, is this baby something I can work into a nice plant or is this hopeless?

I'll soon be geting some seeds to work with but I'd love to bring this baby up as my first... this is really turning into a mission

Setup and facts:
- 2 fluorcent lights
- plant in small cube
- temp high 80
- temp low 67

I just cut out some plastic and put on top of the cube so the light doesn't shine straight on to it, a step in the right direction?

Looks like the rockwool cube is wet. it should never be wet, only moist, give it 1-2 TEAspoons of plain PH 5.6 water each day until you have roots growing out the bottom of the cube. high 80's temps are too hot, you don't want to go over 80 if you can help it.

Putting plastic over the top will only make things hotter, it is ill advised. Stop spraying with water also, it doesn't like to be wet. Plants need more dry air than they do water, by drowning it 3-4 times a day your not helping.

Don't water it at all for a 36 hour period first.

ok, I was told it wasn't good for the light to shine straight on the cube, wrong? I noticed in your journal that you have aluminum or something like that to stop the light from shining on the cubes, should I change out the plastic for aluminum foil?

I'll skip the water for the next 36 hours and then post a pic. I moved the light a bit further up to lower the heat also.

Thx for the reply, I think I might just end up as an active user here, love this forum... I'm reading my ass off

Also.. should I have a fan blowing on or around it when it's this smal and fragile?

The aluminum foil is over the cubes, thats to keep the light from getting to the top of the cube and causing algae growth is all. what kind of light are you using now? I keep mine under a 400 Watt Metal Halide shining directly on it. I have the light under glass with its own ventilation/cooling system. My temps stay at 73F during lights on and go down to 68 with the lights off.

I always have a fan, it doesn't blow directly on the plants, don't need to recreate any small scale Katrina's here. One exhaust fan and a passive intake at the bottom of the Veg /Clone/mother box.

The bad thing about my setup is that I live in a country that is cold during winter so I'm perfecting my setup (in a room in my basement) so it can win the battle against the cold outside. I've closed of the window by building a box around it to block out light and cold with one fan/vent blowing out. The plan is to change this small room into a grow room, but the first step is to get this tiny thing on it's way.

I've got 2 fluorescent 35w daylight bulbs above the plant/baby/infant

I really can't thank you enough for the answers and info, great help :)

Well, it's been almost 30 hours since the weakling got any water and the cube is very light and dry on the outside. I can't say that the plant has improved as you can see on the photo... :-|

Any advice? Can it be that algea has been growing on the cube and is killing it or is this weak thing just not strong enough to live on? I almost feel like I'm losing a child here since I can't get any seeds for a while so if this thing dies, then I'm stop.

I have had raggier clones than that turn around and become viable. You have to be patient and wait for the root system to develop. It will do this on its own timeline - not yours.

3 weeks. are there any roots sticking out from the medium. some times it takes abit for them to develop hang in there doesnt look like its getting worse

I know this is strange to comment on a very old thread but I gave up on that tiny thing and got 2 clones from the same plant to work on.

I think the type is called "big bud" and it stood up to that name, the plants grew to around 180cm... they look more like trees then plants but that's also partly my fault since I was way to slow putting them into flowering.

But, crop time now and boy does it ever work! Here are 3 pics from my mobile... I'll post more later or just start a fresh thread for that so it's in the right place;-)
