hey guys,

based on picture should i switch it to 12/12 already?

some info:

it's a 2.5 months ak47 from seed.

lights: 3X32W daylight CFL (5000K) - can't put more lights because of heat issues. seems to be working fine though..

temps: running a bit high - round the 90F.

light cycle: schedule initially started on 24/0 -> 20/4 -> 18/6 -> and now it's 14/8..

nutes: not using any, just plain tap water that were left outside for the chlorine to vapor..

soil: simple organic store bought soil mix used for tomato grow.. there's some coco in the mix..
oh yeah and i added some tuff to it as well..

happy growin! :peace:

sorry forgot to mention my grow space.. yep it's pretty small - it's in my closet where my clothes used to be.. :-)

alright then.. tonight i'm gonna switch it to 12/12..
anything else i should know before i make the switch?

First thing you should do is get that temp down.
Its way to hot in there should be in the 70's.

The heat will cause airy buds and can help cause pest problems.
Your priority should be getting that taken care of before you go into flower.

Also just get some co2. That should help with mitigating the heatproblem if you can address it no other way.

UM.....Co2 is NOT going to lower temps, Not sure how you came to that conclusion.

You are really going to want to get them temps down before you flower.
Add a exhaust fan to get some of that heat out of there.

A couple things, this is your last chance to repot, I would consider it since this will help improve your yield. Do you have perlite in there? re-potting would give you a chance to add some, unless for some reason you do not need it with coco(I have never used it so don't know).

As the rest stated, 90 is a bit hot unless you are supplementing CO2 your growth will be stunted for most strains.

A bit hot? 90 is way too hot to bud at you should be in the 70's.
Its not so much stunted growth you have to worry about its fluffy airy popcorn bud.
The high heat will ruin your yield.

Also im not sure why people keep bringing up Co2?
Its not going to help bring the temps down.
Co2 needs to be run in a sealed room, if its not the Co2 is wasted.
He is growing with CFL's Co2 would be a waste even if the temps were where they need to be.
Sure it would help them grow like crazy but CFL's wont be enough light penetration to produce anything but more leaves.

Your time/money would be best spent getting a 4 or 6" inline fan and trying to get the temp right.

Forgot last time to respond to the original question.
Flower when your plants are 1/3-1/2 the size you want them to finish at.

People keep bringing up CO2 because it will allow you to grow in higher temps without negative consequences, not actually lower the temps. As to the target temps, I agree it is much easier to get some proper ventilation going to improve your temps, if you can get in the mid 80s you will be fine, mid 70s may be better, but can be tricky depending on your situation. Also different strains will have different tolerances to heat.

I was waitin for that. Some people:wall:

But to the op in that space i would have started last week. Flip the timer on and enjoy. Keep us posted.

Ok so tell me how would using Co2 help him? He is using 3 32w CFL's!
All Co2 would do is make the plant explode in growth, not a good thing when your heat is too high, space is small and you are only using CFL's.
All that it would do is make the light that much more ineffective.
He would end up with tons of leaves and tons of airy popcorn bud with no density.

Sure strains have much different tolerances to heat and cold.
But I know of none that do well in constant heat above 90.
Maybe you know of a few but im sure that's not what he is growing.

His money would be much better spent of a $20-$100 fan rather then a $250+ Co2 system IMO.
I just think he should work on getting the basics down before adding something like Co2.
We are in the newbie forum after all.

I said in my post that he should listen to the others and the heat, was too high. stated plants only flourish in his temps within a co2 rich environment. That was the point I was trying to make.

Just so no one else gets their panties in a bind, his best option would be better ventilation/airflow (like everyone else said).

He needs to cool it down, yes. With only 96w of CFL, co2 won't give him much help. Add to the cost of the fan(s) some more lights, 2700K. co2 requires planning from the start in sealing your grow space.
