Im testing all three of these plants indoors, to see how they perform. The dark purple sativa is a pain to propagate.

Here we have a crazy amount of "exceptional weed lol" that doesn't sell and doesn't bring in big bucks, and that's a good thing, because in reality nothing is exceptional about it, and it def can't compete with the elites of old, not by a long shot.

So, the entire market has become mainly new smokers who define mids as fire, and they determine most of the hype and influence.

I have been burning over 40 years daily-
Bud today is just as good in general- but there is less bunk around - my mids are better than a lot of what was around then.
I do miss the budda thai sticks and bright green skunk though

I just GAVE away a QP from my last grow, to a friend who was in need. It was mids. It wasn't MY fault that it was mids. The plants were GROWN to perfection. It's just that there are a bunch of people selling seeds that are hemp-ish or some of that auto flower/fast flower shit. Nobody knows what to expect. The available genetics are such a mish-mash, now. Anything can be described as anything. Plants can display any number of morphologies. You have to know someone who has good genetics....Or, you have to have some time and experience in the game to know what to look for. Or, you can also get lucky, too.. It happens....like winning the lottery happens. Growers can only do so much. Once you learn how to grow, it's ALL about the genetics.

I think there's some people who take a trip to SE Asia, get some wild seeds, thinking it's the legendary landrace Thai weed of old.....In fact, it's basically just some wild hemp-like plants that grow everywhere and there's nothing special about them at all. Sure, they display a similar morphology -thin leaves, wispy buds, long flower period, etc. But, it's just comparable to hemp when it's time to smoke it. The HEMPeror has no clothes! *see what I did there?*

Todays weed aint in the same universe as what we used to get in my neck of the woods.

Sorry in advance for the late reply here but after reading what you said, isn't just as possible that we are just a bunch of old burnouts with high tolerance? I mean I think I could stand toe to toe with Willy or Woody or Snoop Dog by now and ask for more! It took me 50 years to get here but here I am. You saying the weed is less than somehow then it was back in the 70's and 80's? I mean once I became a regular user and an adult and didn't need to hide it, the paranoid left the building. My wife says I'm goofy all the time. Dreamy? Talk to me after a couple bowls. Stuck? Like frozen in place? What the shit you smokin? No really I get it....I remember some pretty good times and some pretty good smoke and all the paranoid and goofy etc. and just getting wasted but I was a lot younger then too and it wasn't always just weed at some of our gatherings. For the most part the weed we got back in the 70's was garbage. 9 out of 10 bags had to be deseeded and destemed....sometimes to the extreme. Ever have any of that mexican compressed brown shit? There were times when that was the only game in town. The stuff today is far superior....and it's starting to get almost as cheap. Prices are dropping in the dispensaries.

I got busted by the feds in 1997, for cultivation. 1250 plants. 1225 Clones and 25 mother plants in 5 gallon buckets. 1250 clones was the complete count. Counting the clones I gave the RAT/Partner-500. I got charged with all of them, because I was the manufacturer. Brains behind the operation FBI called it.
I pled guilty 10-Life Mandatory Minimum-3-5 MILLION $$ fine-waived. Cant get blood out of a turnip. They can get a pound of flesh though.

We to make a long story short, I dod 12 years altogether. Almost 8 locked up, and 5 supervised release.
I did not smoke 1 toke, in 12 almost 13 years, and consider, I had been an almost daily smoker since 1967.

So to another, make a long story short.
had no tolerance, and while I do get stoned, on some of it. It, most of the weed, with some exceptions, are a complete bust, as far as Im concerned.

All this bullshit about being a clear high, no body high, no heavy comedown?? Thats all modern bullshit. Created by only breeding for certain chemicals, and has totally wrecked the gene profiles.

ALL of the best weed I ever smoked. Vietnam Black. Panama Red. Columbian Red, Green Gold, Oaxacan, Michoacan, Thai,,,,,,,, all of it, would smash your brain, and body both. Drunk comedown.
The high would last for hours. Long enough to listen to records, watch tv for hours. Then raid the fridge, with eyes red as hell, and eating everything in the fridge. Crash. Wake up still fucked up, and eyes still red, and hit the fridge again.
Few strains today do me that way.
And the old strains for sure could make people paranoid. Think people they are looking at them, or, they know, people know theyre ripped.
My eyes used to get so red, you could see them glowing from 5 feet away. NO EXAGGERATION.
Been done with the feds since 2009, and basically $15,000-$20,000 worth of seeds later. Only a few strains start to click some of the boxes.
The strain I had, that feds got, was the best stuff Id seen in at least 13 years. As a buddy had the real deal skunk, obtained from William Keith "NOODLE" Hayes RIP, of Meigs County Ohio. Originator of Meigs Gold. He was friends with an older buddy of mine. I never met him. NOODLE, also gave my buddy-RIP, Ky RED, in 1972. And buddy grew that from 1973-1984. Noodle gave him the Skunk, in 1978, alson with one side of the Meigs Gold. -The Guerrero Side, along with THAI.
The strain I had would rival any of it. NL5 x Haze x Nevils Hashplant x Sk1. Late 80s-early 90s genes.
Even my buddy that had real Skunk, and Ky Red, would tell you it was top of the heap stuff. I lost customers because it would make them so paranoid. The the Body aspect, could also be overwhelming, to the point, it would drive susectiple peoples blood sugar to the ground, and cause extreme paranoia, and anxiety, for hours. One woman is still mad at me 29 years later, as she is convinced, I put PCP in it. She hates me. And it was 1 x 1 gram joint between 5 people.
She laid in front of the toilet dry heaving 5 hours, extremely paranoid. And yep, she had smoked weed many a time.

I had access to some of the earliest known Indica around this area. 1973-NE KY. Noodle had already been growing it for who knows how long. But was growing it by 1972. He started collecting seeds, in the 60s. Was born 1944-2020.
My buddy met Noodle, when his band opened for James Gang at Charleston Civic Center in July 1972. Noodle invited him for a fall/harvest visit.

Considering all the stuff he had, so early on, I do not see how he couldnt have had some BOEL, or California connection. Few had heard of Indica in 72. He also had Kerala, and swore to my buddy. Skunk was a Kerala x Indica cross. Ive wondered if it was a cross on Kerala x Ky Red ( aka-Ky Red Hair )
Buddy lost all the genetics via a RAT. 1984.

But in my neck of the woods, the modern stuff, for the most part is uninteresting garbage. Yeah, you get a buzz. But is not exciting. Not an experience.
