Is College Worth It?

besides the fact that i wanna choke his ass he brings up good points. i just dont feel you have to go to college to be an informed person about the universe! all college does is gives you a little paper that says you know what you're talkin about when you coulda just studied the books on your own an learned it the same way.
 
I have a few friends that have degrees from reputable colleges, and still work minimum wage jobs... it is more about who you know, than what you know. you can always get "trained" depending on the job, such as construction.
 
All depends on your major.. right now it seems everyone goes for the major on where there is the job shortages... nursing is one of them... just today, first day of class, over half of all my classes had nursing majors in them... they'll be competing with each other once they graduate; then the cycle starts for another field that got ignored because everyone thought they could get a job with nursing.... or it's the bullshit media communications major that everyone chews up... being one of the easiest ones, i just dont underastand why people would commit to 4-5 years of their life and getting federal aid or loans just to compete with each other for a job?

Another problem with college is the BS they try to feed you right from high school, take as many courses, do this, do that... yeah it's all about what YOU want to do. When I first started out of high school, my consoler sold me on a business major because I said i liked being in control.... that was when I was 16...

Three years later I dropped out saying WTF was that... just to end up coming back 2 years later with a different major and better determination. .... fuck trying to get a job that pays the most; I just want a job that helps others (well I have one, but I want a better one).
 
I do agree there is some abundence in certain majors. however, I've talked to people with accounting, psychology, teaching, business, and pharmacy/pre-med. All having the same problem.
 
I am not saying never go to college... just dont hop into it right away. You need to figure out what you want to do, and the pursue with that career. Most college students switch their major atleast once.
 
im having this issue, i love sience and want to major it, but my dad (a very smart wise man) is telling me to take buissnes, and that ill get rich as fuck, he said if he has to get me into harvard for me to be sucsessful; hell do it, but idk what to do

If your dad can get you into Harvard, follow his advice. Take business. It is a guarantee you will make money if you graduate with a Harvard business degree. If you do that, happiness will follow. Please remember me and this advice, as I will likely need help in the future. Lol
 
I didn't go to college, hell I didn't even finish High school. I should break 100k this year...... no student loan debt.

My ex wife on the other hand has a degree in psychology, hasn't worked a day in her life and owes over 60k in loans... yet shes supposed to be smarter than me?
 
That's the problem here.

Drop the preception of going to college makes a person smart. That 1950's BS is out played.

College sets up your career, plain and simple. It DOES NOT make you smarter than the next person, only an uneducated person would ASSUME that. You are not PROMISED a job right out of school, you must find and EARN it. Shit that's why people move across country after they graduate, they found a good paying job worth the move.

Oh yeah, and you don't HAVE to go to college to make good $$$. Obviously if you're lucky enough to know someone in a good business, then you're most likely set. My friend doesn't need college, his 'daddy' was an iron worker and introduced him to the hall and all the other workers. Soon after he was 19 he was an apprentice because of his dad and the rest was history. He trys to show off not needing school, but he's honestly not smart enough to realize his career was HANDED to him.

Everyone has different reasons, I can't have a better life without a degree, why? Because I've already tried for seven years.
 
college was a pain in the ass for me but worth it im in my career feild and i love my job, i wake up and i dont say "ugh dont wanna go to work"
 
I was lucky enough to get the opprtunity to work next to my father as well. He is teaching me the ins and out to running 2 bars/ six pack shop.
 
if I knew my dad I'd be in a construction business with plenty of money. idk, I'd rather start up things for myself. not saying I would pass up an opportunity like that if it presented itself.... but if possible I'd much prefer to make it work in my own way....
 
its worth it, going to be worth it, and will be worth it. memorize thats all they want you to do for 30 grand a year. just play the head games, and if you dont learn the one fact threw college..."holy shit there is nothing to do with out it" then why did you even graduate high school. i cant beleive some people want to sit there all do and do nothing. or try to say they gave it all when they really didnt do shit. memorize and head hunt for the job. upgrade become better. college is to teach you how now to live and how to live. as you watch al your class mates drop out.
