Is blurple old hat?

There are still some incredibly expensive blue + red units available. But I hear people talking about them as if they are pentium II
 
I wouldnt say the best units are much more in $/watt than commercial cobs, like $2.50-$3/watt seems typical
 
Only thing blurple was ever good for was/is vegging. For a cheap and long lasting veg light I'd buy another if I didn't have hot spares left from when I stopped flowering with them almost 3 years ago - lol
 
I dunno, my osram CLWs grow some golf balls, better than i ever did with HPS. there is no blurple from 3+ years ago that is even close to the efficiency of todays fixtures
