Is anyone familiar with MR16 LEDs?

I have a few 50 watters that are in a room never used and was wondering if anyone had any experience with MR16 bulbs for growing.

A little bit of google searching revealed that the average output in lumens is 625, and they have a warm color spectrum around 2800k-3200k (What are the important performance characteristics of MR16 lamps? | MR16 Lamps | Lighting Answers | NLPIP). That page shows a comparison between a CFL and the MR16 on a wall as well. They have some pretty cool mounts that can be rotated 360 degrees and angled, sorry no camera for pix. I'm not sure how effective they are, but the only problem I see running into would be heat output. If I remember correctly these things get pretty hot.

if thats the case then having a bunch of these are still going to heat up your grow area like HID because lumens in light energy, and energy make heat

I only have two so I don't think heat will be too big an issue. I would be adding it to the few CFLs.

Temperature:

The temperature of the filament capsule of MR16 lamps rises to at least 260°C (500°F) to maintain the halogen regenerative cycle during operation. Obviously, these temperatures can be dangerous if the capsule comes in contact with skin or flammable materials (Rea 2000). The heat produced by these lamps should be accounted for when considering using them in heat-sensitive applications such as in museums.

A little too hot for me, cool find tho, keep us updated on how they work out

I have a 6-7" fan blowing directly on the ballasts of the two MR16s. Normally touching them would melt skin, but with the fan on them I can hold them and they get warm at hottest.

I'm leaving them in there until tomorrow maybe the next day to see how they work out. I'm probably going to have to ditch them once the girls are more than a week old, but I see no reason why they can't enjoy the extra light for now.

Will try to get one later when my friend swings by. Can't find digi and my cell phone got put in the washing machine, lol.

I plan on adding more CFLs later.

This hopefully girl is about a week old. Started under less than par conditions, but has been in the new box for the last 2 days.

Tonight I transplanted them into new soil and individual containers made up of 50% manure/organic compost soil 25% perlite 25% peat moss.

Wow, the girls are absolutely loving the new soil. Growth has hastened on all of them.

Got a new tap root on a seedy this morning too.

you should use the upload here to post images, some people can't see image shack iamges due to firewall restrictions

looks good, got a fan blwoing on them? that will thicken up that stem quick

is that light bulb splitter thing you using safe? i mean is it safe to split a splitteR?
