Is an 8,000BTU A/C enough?

I plan on vegging in a 48x30x48 space with a 400w t5 setup, and flowering in a 72x48x90 space with two 600w HPS bulbs. I am gonna run the 600w bulbs in cooltubes with a 400cfm inline fan sucking air from outside over bulbs then back outside to not waste any chilled air from the room. I am either gonna use PC fans for the veg area or get a duct booster fan and use that, I am not to sure hoping someone could help me out on that.

I just setup the veg area and turned on the 400w t5 bulbs, and turned on a 5,000btu window unit I had already to see what it would do. It brought the veg area to 81.8f with the lights about 2' from thermometer, and thats not even with the two 600w lights on yet.

Do you think an 8,000 btu window unit would be enough to cool the room down with all 1600w worth of lights kickin? Or do you think I need something bigger?

4000 btu minimum per 1000w, is pretty much the norm with everyone i know, so yeah, it'll work. This might sound real stupid to you if you know what your doing, but you are actually putting that window ac through a wall or window rite?

this depends a lot on how hot your hottest days are, and how well you insulate your room. i minimize the volume of my grow area to a box on a table so that when i add ac or dehumidifier, it works much better on a smaller volume of air.

8000 will not work if a 5000 btu could not cool down 400w in your spot. Gonna need 12000 btu for the 1600w you plan. Don't waste money on the 8000 btu. Check craigslist for a cheap one.

If that 5k btu ac doesn't cut it with his 400w t5 fixture, something ain't rite. 4000 btu minimum, per 1000 watts of air cooled light, works all day up and down cali. It gets 100 degrees plus in summertime where i'm at. Hell, that formula even works in an upstairs bedroom in Stockton ca in the summertime, and it can get so f'ing hot in that town. Sounds to me like something isn't hooked up right with the op. I always go a size or two bigger on the ac myself. Sizing the
Ac right can be the difference between only needing dehu on at night, or needing that dehu on day and night(in a sealed room)

I ran it today, and during the day it was 80f, and at night I got it to 70F so I think I will be all right with an 8000.

i have an uninsulated room and 8k btu works fine for 2k watts just turn your extraction fan down if its sucking up too much cold air.

No, in the heat of summer it won't keep up. Winter is coming, you should be O.K. if you can get fresh cold air in the winter months. Save up some cash and buy the biggest A/C you can for next summer, 14,000-20,000 btu's is what I would be looking for. JAS

i just said an 8000 btu AC keeps up with my 2000 watts when outside the room its 100 degrees and it keeps it in the 70s i just turn my exhaust fan down to about 40%. the room i have is 8x12
