Is a mother necessary to protect the quality of the genetics?

I've read conflicting information about clones and mothers. Some articles say that cloning from a clone, from a clone,... degrades the potency of the plant over time, and recommend creating a mother plant. Some articles say it doesn't matter.

Whaddaya think?

ive heard that before as well, but if you think about it, a clone is that exact plant, it should be exactly the same geneticly, now with that beign said it should stay that way every time you clone your plant. but my knowledge is purely in theory, ive yet to get a clone to survive (well i had one alive for several days, then my cat found it, i think it woulda lived buuut now ill never know). hope this helped

Generally, the genetics won't change. But, if you don't take decent care of the mother plant then the potential is there for the genetics to change/drift with enough time. I have seen it happen, a mother was kept for 2 years and this newer grower always put the healthiest cuttings into flower and kept the weak ones for new mothers. Eventually, some of the plants started to hermie even though conditions were exactly the same. Also, if you take the cuttings from younger, healthier, faster growing parts of the plant you shouldn't have much problem. It will take time for any issues to develop, if they are going to, so you shouldn't worry about it too much.

Does anyone have actual proof of this, with comparative grows and years worth of data to show this changing of genetics?

FYI, what your father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate has to say on the issue isn't something Im interested in.

sometimes the resultant clones display mutations that lead to variation. environmental factors will often cause it. here's an Oxford study.

The misconception is that clones are identical to the mother.
Variables, variables, variables.

They are? If u keep a good and healthy mother, u can run the same crop over and over and over and over and over again. The only variable is grower fuck up.

^Yep. The way you grow will bring out different traits. There are tons of variables that can cause drifting.
Variables...
