Well, it works great!

I simply removed the main laser focusing lense from a cheap pointer, stuck it in the notch on a bobby pin, and taped that to the bare rear of my phone over the camera lense. A lot easier to see in person as you can scan through the depths of focus.

Try it out if you’re in a pinch.

I went a step further today and took some snips and needle nosed pliers and reduced the bobby pin to a smaller version of itself, with a perfect curve for the lens. It is now small enough to pop into my phone cover camera slot, and I can reverse it to take regular pictures and it’s pretty snug. This mod is super easy, convenient if you have a small lens you can salvage, cheap if you don’t, and a cool way to reduce your carbon footprint by recycling junk and not buying a new prepackaged USB microscope.

I’m looking into further lens mods that can stack with this to enhance our field of focus and magnification.

Keep on trucking.
