Intro to led - feedback

So many choices out there for intro level leds. Considering a Galaxyhydro 600w or a Marshydro Mars 600, both about $140. Any thoughts on these or similar budget option, thinking about using in a 4x4 tent.
Thanks...

None of them, both are scrap. You will see burned out diodes real quick and warranty is horrible because most of the time you need to interchange parts by yourself, lol!
Do yourself a favor and get a Quantumboard kit or some Samsung F-strips, both use the same warmwhite 200lm/w diodes not cheap chinese blurple diodes which burn out in a few month. This kits/strips lasts for many years(at least 5) and you'll fall in love with them like almost everyone using these diodes.
if you have a few weeks left, wait for the V2 with LM301b. Same price, but 8-11% more efficiency! For sure one of the best products on the market at an affordable price!

where did you come up with that number? im not sure which voltage or flux bins the 301bs are but when i pick top flux bin for both 561C and 301b and AZ voltage bin for both i see 4% gain which is about in line with cob gens year over year

The galaxy is 230w at the wall.
The mars is 272w at the wall.

On their own they wont light up a 4x4 enough to get good results despite the claims and amazon reviews.

Enter level or cheap LED means disappointing results.
Either go with some quality LED lighting or go with HID lights
Have a look at what guys in the LED forum are using. Its not cheap mars lights nor expensive kind/blackdog LEDs
Forget about the aggressive marketing and do more research on forums like this one.

Haha, can we agree that both can do it ...?
It's really just a question of what you prefer personally. Even with COB's I can achieve +60% efficiency and everything else depends on your grower skills.

@CobKits
Latest GML show, he has spoken from at least 8%, probably up to 11%. But he had no test results yet to publish. There he also mentioned Osram's new Square series which is a dual hyperred diode with 3,4μΜol/s.
If you look at the YT video you can fast forward about a third or a fourth, maybe ~ 30min. I did not written down the point where he enter the conversation, but believe it was about the end of the first quarter or so ..

can we see some pics of your cob grows for comparison?
As ive said before, i dont use COBs. But science/physics dictates that QBs/strips that provide more uniform, diffused light will penetrate much better from giving many more angles for light to go through the canopy. And since the diodes are way more spread than on a COB, you can get mcuh closer before light damaging your plants. This increases the goldilocks zone dramatically.

If a 1.5" circle COB is putting out 50 watts and a 22" strip with 144 diodes is putting out 50 watts, the strip will be much less intense close up than the COB. But the same intensity at normal 12-24" distance.

so.. youre just making stuff up then

No, did you not read my post?

I cant wrap my mind around why people can't understand penetration. How does one grow long ass colas dense down to the bottom? By having good penetration. So if one light setup can penetrate (much) better than another, it will be more able to grow long, dense colas.

That's not to say COBs cant penetrate, they can. But qbs/strips running the same number of lights as a COB build will penetrate much better.

QBs/strips can grow bigger donkey dick colas than COBs easily.
You do realise that the pic you posted is cobs and qbs. How many strip grows have you completed?

E2a nice grow that is that grower knows what they are doing.

It was 80% QBs and 20% cobs in terms of wattage. But you are correct.

And none on my own. Did help my friend get a 600w build setup and through clone to harvest though. Only on week 4 of veg under my own strip build...

Doesnt really matter though to the topic. Never said COBs cant grow big yields and great plants. Simply said that they cant penetrate as well as qbs/strips, and it's true.

When a COB is so small in size and outputs so much light, it cannot spread light into the canopy as well as a strip or board that's like 20 times bigger and outputting the same intensity.

And it will burn plants much easier if you get close to it....

3x 70w cxb3590 spaced 10" apart, at 10" away, is 1300PPFD. My 22" strips running at 32w each at 10" way is about 760PPFD.

I can go up to 1" away before PPFD hits 1300.

This is great - thanks everyone. Links to QBS that you recommend? I figured these were junk - this is for a secondary tent, I’m using a 600w HPS now.
