Insectiside on Buds in Flower??

I have a bit of a spider mite problem from some clones I got at the shop. I just watered with neem oil, but also want to spray the plants with something that will actually kill them instead of just deter them. I was thinking about individually applying the pyrethrum to each leaf. But that is going to take FOREVER.

Since this stuff breaks down so fast, would it be safe to spray the entire plants down? They are like half way through flower so they definetly have bud mass to them. Will it break down in the next couple of weeks? Will it affect the taste of my buds?

Thanks for the help.

Bob

thats what your suposed to do. not feed it with the stuff. stay away from bud sites. it takes a few aplications to. neem is organic but still stay away

Neem oil can be applied topically or as a systemic in the soil. It says so right on the bottle, and many studies have shown it works as a systemic in the soil and directly injected into the plant.
The pyrethum is organic as well. It is made from crushing "mum" flowers. I am going to give it a couple of doses, I was just hoping I could get away with spraying the whole plant. But it looks like I will have to wipe each individual leaf like I originally planned.

Your best bet now is control. In the future, think prevention right away. That makes things so much easier

learned something new then. i have never use neem. i use another product with the same stuff in it.
just never heard of anyone putting in soil. i wouldn`t put it in the soil myself. obvious the plant will drink it and i wouldn`t want to smoke it my self.

You mix it with water and a surfactant (which lowers the surface tension of the water) so the oil actually mixes with the water. It went into the soil just fine, and the next watering didn't pool up or anything so I'm assuming its not causing the water to "bead" away from the soil. Also, it breaks down in the soil in 2-4weeks, and I have just over 4weeks of flower left, so I don't think it will be a problem.

I wiped down all the leaves, and tried to stay away from the bud sites. Some of them got a little pyrethrin on them, but I didn't drench them by any means. I will be applying this stuff again in a couple of days.

At this point, I am just trying to get the numbers down enough to where my harvest is not affected. Even though I already had to pull the two plants that brought the mites in the room. As long as I can make it to harvest, my plants in veg will get like 10doses of insecticide before they start showing flowers, and I will be bug bombing my entire room. So my next batch shouldn't have any problems.

make sure you douch the room real good before doing anymore growing in there. i dont think the stuff kills the egs, thats why we have to repeat so much to control. i know they can hibernate quite a while

I will be hitting the entire room with bug bombs twice probably, and the plants in veg will get a buch of doses to kill the adults and repeated doses to kill the new hacklings until they go away. I am going to try and find a safe systemic treatment that actually kills the mites instead of just detering them.

I was thinking about doing a "co2 bomb" like that. I think I may do it tonight. Like I said, I just want to keep the numbers down for the next 4 weeks so I can get a harvest. I have never lost a crop and don't intend to over these little shits. I may buy some lady bugs in the next couple of days also. I figure, the neem in the soil, the pyrethrum on the leaves, a Co2 bomb, and the lady bugs should help.
Thanks for all the posts.

the CO2 will definatly help as long as you can hold it for an hour
then release the lady bugs after your CO2 has come to a stable / livable PPM
they will take care of anything that hatches ...
if i recall Al B said a CO2 overload like that will kill eggs as well (I could be wrong tho)
and that will save you from having to reapply neem oil or pyrethrum

I am in the process of releasing the Co2 right now. It has been on for about 20min now, so we should be up to somewhere about 10,000 ppm right now. I can't keep my temps low enough to keep the Co2 in the cab for an hour with the lights on, so I am going to turn them off pretty soon for about an hr.

So the plants will be sitting in the 20-30,000 PPM for about an hour. Half of it with the lights on, half with the lights off. I am going to do this a couple of times before the end of harvest, plus dosing the plants in veg, the bug bomb when I harvest, and the lady bugs in the next couple of days.

its a bit spendy on the CO2 but you gotta save the plants
as for bug bombs the Doktor Doom bombs work well
i would harvest then clean and disinfect the grow room completely then use a doktor doom bomb
after that as long as you keep on top of them you wont be in this spot again

and ... i was gonna mention earlier that you may have to schedule the CO2 boms around your lights out time . seems you sussed that out
and as a PS let us know if the CO2 bombing kills the nasty little bastards

you need this stuff here it has pyrethrins so it kills on contact............

yep yep hes already sprayed pyrethrin
the doktor doom fogger is also pyrethtin based
i think he has reservations about spraying his buds down in the middle of flowering

Just so you know, the "Garden Safe" stuff you buy at home depot for $5 a bottle is the exact same stuff in the exact same ratio for a third of the price. I used that on the leaves already, and neem in the soil. And now I am using the Co2. I just want the bastards dead!! I don't mind spending $20 on a Co2 fill to kill the bugs, its worth it. All of this has been done in like a 2 or 3 day period, so they should be dead I hope.

ANd the only reason I am in this position in the first place is because of freaking clones I bought at the club. I have decided after this, if I want a new strain, I am forking out the money for seeds. This is only the second time I have had mites in 3yrs, and both times were from clones I brought home from the club.

I was typing my post as you were answering too, and yes I don't want to spray the buds and thats why I was asking about doing it or other options.
