Insecticide while flowering?

I was reading through some of the forums and i saw this guy post something about someone spraying the weed he got within a month or something so my real question is while your plant is flowering is it ok to spray the plant with insecticide or will that have a negative impact on the potency, taste, or yield of your plant?

May have an effect on the taste.

One tbl spoon of vegetable oil per gallon of water. Mist the leaves. be sure to get the underside of the leaves as well.
