Inline Fan Problems

Hello, I have a 4 Inch Inline fan and the problem is that it seems to be pushing air through the middle edges of the fan where they cross over and attach with screws? Does it need a cover or something? + think it's probably lowering it's ability to push air into the other room..

So I put some tape around the edges -.- hope it helps...
