you don't really, all depends on the situation. First two grows i never flushed.....now on third i am flushing every 30-days cause my water is very hard and salts build up...flushing takes that and excess nutrients away.
In a nut shell, flushing is a technique used for end of flowering and if you over do your nutes.

When you chop, dry, and cure your plants, they won't smell/taste like the chemicals you used.

Yeah, ALWAYS flush. Smoking nutes is no fun. I grow for maximum yeild, flavour and potency and they're all as important as each other. Also, it'll aid curing in giving you a sweet smooth smoke and stop it crackling or sparking as ferts can do sometimes. Using about 3 times more water than the pot can hold, just flush it through for about a week and a half to 2 weeks at end of flowering. The only other time you'd use flushing apart from harvest is if you'd overnuted and it's burning the leaves, but even then i'd probably not flush, just give it a one off of more water. But flushing is a very important aspect of preharvest.

i flush once a month myself....much easier than waiting for it to show nute burn and/or salt buildup and having to deal with it then....a good defense is the best offense

Good point. I dont hear many people talking about it these days, i personally dont do it coz of the loss of yeild and taste/smell, but in terms of smoothness of smoke, yeah, a great thing.

whatever! i never taste anything bad from my stuff....nice smooth smoke...i dont share therefor i dont care if you flush or not....simply not true to ALWAYS flush. I do flush once in awhile for salt build ups but not after flowering

there is NO proof to this anyhow...there would be lots of dead pot heads out there if this was true....i can gaurantee you that commercial growers are not flushing

Of course commercial growers arnt flushing... same as they arnt leaving the plants to mature, they just cut as soon as theres bud to sell and turn the illegal weed into legal cash.
