How can you tell just by looking at the plant?

If it grows outdoors real well then what do you think it is?

A lot of times you can tell by the leaves of the plant or if you have seeds from a grower they should be able to tell you.KEEP SMOKE ALIVE!!

from the leaves it looks almost sativa, and its got some height on it.

Staiva's have more potent smoke.

but also take longer to produce bud "flower"

That looks like a mostly Sativa hybrid to me. They grow tall. Very tall.

I don't think Sativas are necessarily more potent, but the smoke is a headier high, rather than anaesthetic. They do take forever to flower, as long as 12 weeks.
