Hello All,
I've been doing a lot of research into effective ways to increase my gardens yield without busting the bank or forcing myself to expand my square footage.
I've come to the conclusion that CO2 is a great way to really see an increase in yield without worrying about the space complications and hefty bill that arise from purchasing another 400w light and ballast (for example).
One could always add more lights, plants, and square footage to their garden, but its oftentimes cheaper, easier, and effective to just make the addition of a CO2 system to see great results.
To supplement a garden with CO2, you only need a few pieces of equipment.
1. An appliance timer
2. 20 lb. tank of CO2
3. C02 controller
4. C02 regulator
5. Drilled C02 tubing with micro holes (3-10 feet), and a plastic tubing T - connector
The CO2 tank should be placed in an area with easy access and does not need to be in the grow room itself. the CO2 regulator is screwed onto the tank, and this is then attached tot he CO2 controller. The CO2 tubing is then attached to the tank's emitter. (CO2 regulator)
Make a loop with some more tubing and attach it to the tubing connected to the emitter. this loop has micro holes drilled into it and can be hung 2 - 20 inches above the plants. The CO2 is heavier than air and it will gradually sink down into the garden. Make the loop to size your individual garden needs.
Plants only utilize CO2 when the lights are on so the light timer and the CO2 timer should be on the same cycle. For extra hep, blow a fan on a low setting on the tubing to help permeate more CO2 around the room.
CO2 levels in the room should be 1000 to 1300 ppm. This will increase your yield and shorten your harvest cycles!!
Below is a chart from one of Ed Rosenthal's books called Lets Grow a Pound. It shows the outcome of two grows using the sames strains - one with C02 and one without. As you can see, C02 greatly improved his second yield.
Here is a link to the actual book, which shows a day by day progress of a grow with CO2:
