Supposed to read 6 Inch rockwool

All In the next few days I plan on transplanting my 6 inch rockwool that I have been top feeding into the 2 gallon buckets with Caps Ebb and Grow system. i realize this isnt the most effcient setup and am leaning tword just rapid rooters, net pots and my Ebb and grow the next time around? - Feedback?

However I am wondering whats the best method for this. I am wondering if I should bury the rockwool all the way or maybe take a half way approach. I am concerned that I want more space for the root development and also if I do the half way if the that will supply enough water/nutes to the top half of the root system in the rockwool. I am guessing I should bury the cubes about an inch down huh?

Thank you in advanced..

just set the system for flood and remove hydroton in the buckets until enough water is exposed to adequately moisten the bottom of your rockwool and plant it that deep. the buckets flood pretty high.

sh, thanks for the advice but I am a bit confused by your reply.. So your saying that I can have the rockwool sitting out a couple inches in the hydroton.. That will provide the roots with enough water?

Thank you

If you put it like in that second picture it'll be way too wet. So I choose picture number 2. That's kind of a big cube to transplant. You could have issues with top heaviness.

Anyway, just flood the buckets. You'll see where you need to place them.

FYI thats a 2 gal not a 5 gal bucket?

Maybe half way difference between pic 2 and 3 like sticking out 2 inches instead of 3?

I have a cap ebb and grow. yes, 2 gallon buckets. when you run a flood cycle the water comes say 3 inches below the top of the bucket if they are set level with the controller (I've never actually measured this, I'm guessing). Do you have roots coming out of the bottom of your cube? Then you really only need to flood the bottom inch of your cube in the ebb and gro. The roots will spread into the hydroton.

Yes roots coming out the bottom of the cubes... I understand your saying then that the tops can remain dry or they will "soak" water up them a good bit...

Thanks for your insite

LOL thanks bud...

So you say fill each of the 2 gal pots about 3 inchs from full with hydroton. Then flood the cycle and see where that leaves the water at? Then either add or remove hydroton so that on my GIANT rockwool cubes only a bout the bottom inch is ever submerged in the water?

Is it to hard to guess without actually flooding?

Finally... have you ever felt that the 2 gal buckets are a little short or are they ideal for this type of plant?

Thanks

Cheers

Exactly what you said. Fill the pots and flood them. You should be testing the system before you put your plants in anyway.

Everybody who uses this grows pretty big plants. The size of the pot isn't a factor since you can deliver as much nutrients as you want. There's a couple growers who have modified their system to accomodate 5-gallon buckets but I haven't heard of any legendary results from doing that.

Here's a thread to subscribe to: it's all ebb and gro users, so you can get lots of experienced advice there.

I'm still working on my first grow in this system and it's working out spectacularly.

Question

When I transplant my rockwool into the pots/hydroton do I remove the plastic wrap that is surrounding the cube. 75% of the cube is exposed above the hydroton.. I hope that this is the right way to put them in there I have pics above..

I have the cube just so that it touches the water on the bottom 1/2 inch when the buckets flood...

Thanks..

Question.. Do have your controller bucket in the grow room? What about the green lights on it if you do?

Also during the fill cycle the special 90 degree elbow leaks water is that normal and what makes it special or did I crack it or something?

Thanks cheers

I don't have my controller right in with the plant but don't worry about the green lights. they are not significant.

The anti-siphon fitting is there so your barrel doesn't continue to flood your buckets and overflow its entire contents on the floor. It's supposed to leak.
