Share those stories! Every one of us was a first time grower, some of us still are. With my first harvest coming up soon, I've been thinking back on everything that's happened. All the things I did wrong, what I did right. That time I almost got busted.
So, the idea is to share a story or two from your first grow. It can be the story about why you got into growing, a success story about your first harvest, or the first time that last plant died. Who knows, maybe our stories will help a new grower avoid making the same mistakes as we did.
I'll start. I'm starting week 5 of flowering in my first grow, White Widow and Big Bud from Ministry of Cannabis. My story is about a catastrophic failure of my aeroponics that almost got me busted a couple weeks ago.
So, I decided to use an aeroponics system since I'm well experienced with caring for plants and I'm good with tools and like to build stuff. So, me and a couple friends decided to split the cost and we designed and built our box and aeroponics from the ground up.
The system worked beautifully for about 6 weeks. It developed a massive leak when two things occurred at the same time. First, my drainage tube got clogged with roots. Second, the silicon I was using to seal up the pipe cracked a little and pulled away from the pipe. The higher water level in the tubes reached this crack, and the aeroponics dumped about 6 gallons of water onto my floor.
Now, that's a problem, but it's a major problem when you're on the top floor of an apartment complex. I discovered the leak myself right around the time I got a call from my apartment's management telling me maintenance was on the way to fix the leak in my bathroom.
To make a long story short, in the 3 minutes it took for the maintenance guy to get to my door, I had flooded my bathroom, hidden everything remotely related to the grow in my office, locked it off and threw all my towels in the floor of the bathroom to make it look like I was fighting the leak. After "repairing" the toilet, the maintenance guy left and was none the wiser. I've since fixed the leak and clog and built a new, leakproof aeroponics system to be used in grow #2.
So, anybody else have an entertaining first time grower story?
