Ok i think ive got everything i need to get started ive done quite a lot of reading up on things and feel quite confident as this is my first grow im trying to keep things simple but effective. My only thing im not too sure of is my grow area, i dont have alot of space to work with. i have a wooden cabinet that is 3ft tall and 3ft wide iand im hoping to be able to use this to convert into my grow box is it possible to use this? i have the following equipment just need some advice on the setup

Blue spectrum 6400k 250w cfl
Red spectrum 2700k 250 cfl
Reflector
2x 80mm computer cooling fans
Digital timer switch

Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated

Yeah you can make it work. Just be sure to keep in mind the reality that after adding in lights/pots/plants, there will be even less vertical growing space - so think very small plants w/ very little veg time (or none). I'd also jump right on in with learning and experimenting with topping, LST'ing, supper cropping, and/or SCRoG'ing to figure out what means of height training works for you and the plants.

you forgot your goin to need 4" aluminum dryer ducting for Air in and exhaust as well your goin to need to either white paint or mylar for inside of cabinet
remember for exhaust end drill high in cabinet as heat rises hook up pc fans to that end Exhaust end and drill one 4" hole for air in as long as cabinet is sealed your goin to be on your way if heat issues arise add another air in vent good luck

hey there. okay, with the height, what u need to remember is this, if it is 3ft tall, that is before u hang the light. then the plants have to be approx 1 1/2 -2 inches away from the light. Now u have the pot, & in this case a wider shorter pot would work better, because now the actual grow space is going to be from the top of the soil in the pot to that approx 2 inches from ur light. So lets gestimate that gives u 2 ft 4 inches. What that means is u have to start flowering no later then the point at which ur plants r 1 ft. 2 inches tall (to account for at least double height growth in flower). BUT...as the previous poster said if u do LST well then it gives u alot more room & u can utilize the width space more effectively then the height space.

Of course, along with ur pots & soil, u will need basic nutes (at least for flower) if ur soil has them built in for veg. U will also need a ph meter & a thermometer. A spray bottle. Probably some epsom salts, maybe some vinegar. And a good little 30x jewelers loop or microscope, & measuring tape. Of course do not use aluminum foil, either have white walls inside ur box or mylar or foil like emergency blanket. hope that helps & best of luck with the grow!

The lights and pots was what was putting me off using such a small box and i have been looking into topping etc but it seems quite daunting having no real experiance growing, what would would be the easiest technique for me to try first?

Thanks for the advice im going to look into the ducting. sorry i forgot to mention ive got white matt paint for the inside but what im worried about is as im planning to have the lights of during the day, so how i go about stopping light getting in these vents etc?ive done a bit of reading on LST but having no real experiance growing it all seems a wee bit dauntng. as for nutes im open for suggestions but im realy wanting to play it safe and keep it quite basic to start with i was thinking to go with biobizz grow and bloom will they work for me?

um i tried topping and LST for the first time and it was kinda freaky but they look cool after its done heres what mine look like

budbeast do you have any sketches of ur design you can post im interested to see what u r thinking about doing the light through the vents has got me wondering

Here are some things you missed

veg/flower grow nutrients
Supplemental nutrients like calmag and silica blast
PH meter
PPM meter
Ph up Ph down solution
Ph meter calibration and cleaning solution
Some Neem just in case you get pests you can slow them down till you get something to remedy your problem.

Here are a few other things:

Temperature humidity gage
Humidifier
Bottle of fabrize
automatic scent sprayer
electric air cleaner with carbon filter. or just inline fan with carbon filter.
