If I block 80-90% of the light entering my dwc reservoir, is that enough?

I've got a rubbermaid that I've got black 6mil plastic around the sides but its hard to keep it perfectly flat on all the sides. So this makes it imperfect at getting 100% of the light blocked. Should I use duck tape (if you can't duct it, f*ck it!) and just do my best to reach for 100% light blockage or should I just say screw it?

Also, I'd be interested in hearing ideas of any readers on how to light proof the top lid of the rubbermaid. It does a good job, being black, but not 100% perfect. I've got 12 3" holes cut into my lid, so putting 6mil black plastic with those holes in it would probably suck and not work all that great considering the quantity of light leaks that are bound to show up.

get some white corrie board £10 for a 8x4 sheet cut it the size of the side and use reflective tape to hold it together
u can do the same for the top shud work did 4 me

What about getting some Kilz primer/paint and putting a couple coats on the outside of my rubbermaids? I was thinking about the Corrie board idea and I feel like that might get in my way a bit. I think painting it would make it easier to keep clean too.

Double bag it!

I use a 32 gallon Sterlite blue container. I put down add two 4 x 8 boards in it and then I insert the other tub. I originally did this for safety. If my tub flooded Id be fucked, and with the peeps living below. I then realized that with the two layers of plastic it is almost lightproof.

I have water temps around 65 degrees and my ladies are rocking!

get some black grip mats that you would use in cabinets to put glass and silverware on(lowes or home depot).cut 8" circles out of them.then cut a hole in center to go around the stem.It will black it out from top and is cheap(under $10).

I got a mean wife. I tend to spend a lot of time out in the Labs just to stay out of her crosshairs.

and the doors lock from the inside,,,,,

Boomer's got it right......NO LIGHT!!! 0% is the ONLY acceptable way to go. Light can cause algae which is not a battle you want to fight.
Do it right from the beginning and you won't be going "oh shit! now what?!?"
NO LIGHT
