NEVER TOSS A SEED! How dare you ;p
You might as well TRY to germ them since it only takes a day or two. They are right though, darker seeds are usually better, but your seeds look damaged.
How to tell if you have a good seed:
LIGHTLY squeeze them between your finger tips. If they crack they are dead and no good.
I had a few that looked good but I think I may have smoked them a little so they got burned and of course were no good. What dumbass put them in my seed bag? Oh yeah, that was me... must have been stoned.
My version of the paper towel germination:
Take 1/4 of a paper towel (1/2 of a half sheet)
Wet it under normal tap water and then squeeze it firmly till no more water comes out. No need to go crazy, just squeeze it.
Now unfold the wrinkled up paper towel and refold it into thirds so that you have a long piece of paper towel 1/3 the size width wise but still as long height wise.
Unfold it and place your seeds into the middle section then evenly refold the other two leaves of towel back onto the seeds.
Your seeds should now have a double thickness of towel against one side of them and a single width thickness against the other side.
Take a glass and fill it with about 1/2 to a 1/4 inch of water. Place the paper towel double thickness side against the wall of the glass with about an inch dipping into the water at the bottom of the glass.
Your glass should be small enough that you can fold over a little bit of the top of the paper towel over the edge of the glass. This will hold the towel in place over time.
Make sure that your seeds are not in the water and not over the glass edge. Ideally they should be near the top of the glass, in the top 1/3.
The paper towel will wick up water from the glass as it evaporates from the top of the paper towel. This will keep the seeds moist at all times without them being too wet.
Making sure that you only have one width of paper towel on the outside face of the paper towel will ensure that the seeds also receive plenty of oxygen.
Now, most importantly, put the seeds in a DARK WARM place like a cupboard in your garage and leave them alone for a day.
Check them every new day to see if they are germing and to make sure you still have water in the glass. DO NOT LET THE SEEDS DRY OUT! You can tell they are germing because they will have a white root thing coming out of the seed.
Now plant that seed with the white root thingy facing down and the seed case at the top. The depth depends on the length of the white root thingy. Basically you want the seed pod to be just barely covered and the root to have as much space as it is big. Water profusely but slowly till the soil is drenched and pours out lots of water from the bottom.
Be careful watering that you don't dislodge your new seedling.
The basics of that info have been posted a million times but that's what I've gotten to work really, really well. I've only had 1 possibly viable seed not germ that way out of 12 seeds. But of course that's all I've ever done so take my advice with a grain of salt.
