Ideas of growing on a flood plane?

So I found this spot deep in the woods with a VERY little river next to it(the water barely moves), and I noticed the ground really close to the river is moist all the time... This leads me to believe that when it rains a lot the river gets much bigger and the land around it becomes a flood plane.

What do you guys think about growing on the flood plane? Would the soil be to moist? The plants would get more than enough water when it rains, and I figure since it's a flood plane the soil is pretty healthy.

Any Ideas?

Wait until it rains and as soon as it stops go down there. After you get a good idea of how far the water will spread into the flood-plain give it at least 15 to 20 more yards and plant there it will be an amazing crop on that kind of soil =]

Oh jeeze, I think 15 to 20 yards is overkill, since the river is at the bottom of 2 hills....

I can guarantee that like 3 yards away is more than far enough from this river, since it's about 2 feet wide and 5 inches deep lol, still water with little motion. I know there's a lot of bamboo growing around in the area... I'll test out the soil and do a few test runs this up coming year to see what flourishes and what not.

I was just wondering if it was bad or good to have the plants base sitting in water occosiaonlly after heavy rains. Meaning the entire area around the soil would be completely watered, getting all of the roots etc, vs rain which can run off. Not sure really..

Oh I think a good sativa will do you well try to find something that grows tall and hardy (like 15 to 20ft) to so it can keep up with all that crazy bamboo. Maybe research some good strains that thrive where bamboo grows? and i think it will do alright the rains around your area arnt really that brutal (hurricane season might knock you around abit though lol be sure to stand the plants back up after you get hit hard). But do try to get as far away from that stream as your comfortable with if its in the V of two big hills expect a good 2ft swell.

Ya, I've got a bunch of bag seed that turned out to be sativas last year.. since they grew like 6 feet without any kind of watering or fertilizers in a 2 gallon pot.. I'll probably grow them around the bamboo... since bamboo has leaves at the top, and since the bamboo is growing the weed should be able to grow to, assuming it gets the same sunlight.

doesn't bamboo grow a lot faster than weed and then they is they chance of no light getting to the weed

well I mean.. I can cut down the bamboo that shadows the weed lol, it's fairly thin. I've been surveying the area day to day.... I can clear out bamboo around the weed if needed, only concern is i don't know how full of leaves the trees are going to be later in spring/summer.

Yes bamboo grows alot faster than cannabis. Some strains of bamboo grow up to 2 feet a day. Plus bamboo likes a more acidic soil so you probably need to check the ph before you plant. Your best bet would be to build a couple of raised boxes. It sucks to lose your whole crop to root rot.

bamboo doesn't get real leafy during spring. The leaves aren't what you have to worry about. Bamboo is very invasive and the roots run along the top of the soil and can choke out other plants.

When I was mentioning the leaves I was reffereing to the leaves of the TREES, around the area, the big ol cock suckers.

I probably wont put right into the soil.... probably will dig a 2 foot deep hole or so and put in my own soil mix.
