Hey guys, I am gettig into organics and want to plant a bunch of plants that can improve my organic grow. I was looking at growing (for example), comfrey, thyme, rosemary, possibly aloe but might keep that indoors, and whatever else I find to be useful. What do you guys suggest?

I dont have much gardening experience, would it be beneficial to cook a lightly amended soil for some of these plants? For example, I read Aloe needs a good draining soil..

I dont have o locally available shops that have this kind of stuff, so I \ to grow ([ bunch. I have a big garden available.

1. What should I grow, and is there a "good" place to order seeds?
2. Is there anything I can do beforehand, like till the ground?

I want to get everything together, and research what plants I can put near my important plants to prevent bugs and whatnot. Also, is it worth it to spend about 125$ on a small greenhouse thing or not necessary? Thanks for your guys time.

herbs are best for a planter box IMHO

should you have a deck they are perfect for the ones that hang off the rail

or you could go with a little circular planter outside.
theres tons of places to buy seeds if youre going organic youll want to buy organic non gmo seeds for your plants. this is unlike seeds for marijuana just search in google and pick the best price best shipping basically.

it is in my opinion youll want to grow in a planter since youre only growing herbs as of mentioned rather than IN the ground
but should you choose to grow IN the ground you will need to look up your hardiness zone to see what type of soil you have and how it affects plants.
here is a US one http://planthardiness.ars.usda.gov/PHZMWeb/

you can also start your herbs indoors as well, i always say grow basil as it is the easiest to grow. to in my opinion and adds a lovely smell
chocolate mint as well is great

the best thing about gardening herbs and plants and veggies is that theres so much damn information online and it is so unbelievably easy to understand you can save some good websites and be set for life basically within 20 mintues of research

as for the small greenhouse thats up to you, you can grow herbs just fine without in the kitchen window so i would say scrap it unless you live somewhere thats very cloudy all the time and extremely rainy like i do

Read up on each plant as to whether it is acid or alkaline soil loving.

Yeah I love making comments on stories and then never responding when they predictably go nuts. But I don't like them on FB so I have to look online to see if there's anything - like this - that is worth perusing.

I do have a big deck, I want to grow plants that I can use with my cannabis grow. Comfrey and alfalfa for example. Whats your guys' opinion on what I should grow?

what are you going to eat?

it really all depends

alfalfa sprouts are generally grown in your kitchen in a jar and take like 7 days... they arent so much a plant where you would actually plant seeds in soil and watch them grow.

why does it have to be used with your cannabis grow?, various vegetables and herbs take longer or shorter times than cannabis, they wont harvest at the same time probably, and each plant , herb and cannabis will require separate steps and care taking.

i dont have an opinion on what you should grow because i dont know what you like to eat. but i would suggest you google search some gardening websites and start reading, and than pick various plants/veggies and herbs from there.
go with beginner plants, like i said in my previous post, the way they have gardening info written on websites is extremely easy to understand a 10 year old can do it. its not hard and is usually very well written step by step , unlike cannabis tutorials

Thank you for your time sunny, I appreciate it. Im growing a few extra plants like catnip/grass, and strawberries but I mainly am curious about growing plants that I can use with my organic grow like aloe, comfrey, alfalfa..

I read about some plant(s) having something in them that deters bugs. There was a thread about plants to grow to use with organic cannabis grows, but I cant find it.

Is there a site you order your seeds from?

i assume you do outdoor growing than, are you planning on putting the plants side by side? or? whats your idea set up?

i ordered canadian seeds from a canadian company no use to you, as they were local,
ive yet to find an american one cause it isnt time to order
just good for a good gmo free organic seed site, youll find a good one
the vegetable seed market is unlike the cannabis one you will find decent seeds as long as you research into the company

strawberries are a bitch to grow by the way do some extra reading on those

I'm trying new things this year. I grew broccoli and kale over the winter, and am going to try my hand at carrots. All for the first time. What I did was go to You Tube and search. You will find hundreds of how to videos on anything.

My main summer gardening is peas, corn, squash, melons, peppers and tomatoes. In winter I always grow turnips and collards. But I like trying new things. If in doubt about what you might like, go to the grocery and buy some of it and see if you like it. I would advise you to start small and put a lot of attention into a few plants.

Good luck

I have a bigger sized deck, I didnt even think about hanging planters off the ledge. Utilization baby! Im just trying to grow plants that can benefit my grow, like comfrey. Or my cats, catcrass/nip! Worried about tracking bugs inside, midwest, going to research on plants that help prevent bugs. Thank you.

Yes all outdoor. Only cannabis/aloey

Yes all outdoor, cannabis/aloe indoor. I want to utilize my deck and use planters/containers, Im thinking its easier that way? Im planting some stuff in the earth regardless, Im excited to see what happeneds.

My dad and I setup a cool strawberry planter, it starts with a big circle and 3 other circles gradually getting smaer in size are in the middle. You fill the spaces with dirt, I had strawberries in there but was a quite lazy and young(er) so those and the jalapenos died.

I dont have anything setup yet, other than a few types of plants I am interested in. Whether or not their level of difficulty is beyond what I can handle, Im not sure of.

Comfrey, stinging nettle, horsetail, alfalfa, dandelion, never seen an aloe plant outdoors around me.. If thats even possible? That I recall atleast!

you will need to look up your usa hardiness zone, and see if you can grow those specific plants in your specific zone area.
all plants have a level zone of planting its number coded, very easy

you can look that up through google to find out which zone youre in, when you buy your seeds most seed websites have a zone filter and drop down section.
i could not tell you if those plants are good for your zone because i dont know where you live.
why do you want to grow dandelions? their weeds. lol they dont really do much dont they already grow on your lawn typically? you could make a tea or a salad with them thats about it

your plant choices are not something i would ever consider growing so i dont have much information on them because none of those are plants i would plant.
like really why the hell do you wanna grow stinging nettle they cause rashes?

i believe i have also mentioned in this thread that alfalfa doesnt grow like a plant, its grown from seed but in jars and moisture inside, it grows in like 7- 10 days its not a planting kinda plant.

you have some really strange plant choices there they arent plants typical people grow aside from like aloe plant....

stinging nettle is a real problem for dogs too..dont you have a dog? or you save animals or something right? .... stinging nettle isnt a very friendly plant...it causes skin rashes and irritation...
like i really not understanding your gardening choices ....

i mean ultimately its your garden so its your choice, but id rethink your plant choices personally.

About to start looking into seed catalogues, it's that time of year again.

If you know what you're looking for you shld be able to forage for stinging nettle, it's everywhere. It grows in my yard and it is wicked stuff. It has barbs and also gives you a mild chemical burn, itchy as hell, so maybe you may not wish to grow it at your home, near pets and ppl.

You can usually purchase small Aloe plants at markets and home centers. It's grown indoors because it won't over-winter here.

Another idea is to purchase large bags of Alfalpha economically from a farm co-op, already dried and ground up to add to your soil mix.

Those are the plants I'd recommend not growing, except for the aloe. :)

Those plants ideas are from organic threads, people use it in teas/topdressings/organics. I didnt realize the stinging nettle lived up to its name, the dandelion was named more so as an idea of what Im aiming to grow.

Glad alfalfa is quick, I know you can buy it cheap. Maby its not worth growing, just want to grow stuff to even just use in my compost/ewc bins.

No stinging nettle cat duneons over here no worries!
