Equipment:

250watt hps
4 small cfls
carbonfilter
2 fans

The 250 watt hps and 4 cfls will be timed and wired seperately, the fans will be wired seperately and both extensions will be plugged in to the mains separately.

Whats the best way to do this? Do I need a contactor.. or can I used heavy duty extension leads?

From what I have heard I need a contactor in conjunction with the timer so it doesnt 'burn out'

HELP

lights on one extension timed, fans on another timed also
I will have two timers one for the lights and one for the fans

doggy come on, you have been asking about this now for days and lots have told you how it is done right. get on with it dude ;-)

Haha, yeah I know.. but it needs to be done properly.
So...
1 heavy duty extension just for the 250 watt hps and a couple of small cfls.
and a separate heavy duty extension for the fans and filters.

Do I need a contactor for the 250watt hps?

I read that it can break or mess up after a while without a contactor...

The only problem left now is if I need a contactor/buying an extension with one inbuilt.

Also, does the timer go in to the wall or into the extension because its not just one light I want to turn on and off
its a 250watt hps and a couple of small cfls......

You can run your extension to where the contactor is placed and plug the TIMER AND MAINS plugs into the extension. Just as your diagram is.
