Ideal Oil Rig

This is my first post so let me start by saying hello :blsmoke:
I just got an vapor dome from OGB with a ti nail, glass dome, and 18mm male to male conversion piece. I have been using it on a Glass City 10 arm bubbler (Yes it is a 10 arm not an 8 arm). After a few dabs it seems I either made my BHO poorly or there is too much diffusion because the dabs are almost tasteless. I made a small batch of BHO out of some good (Not medical quality but well above mids and most headies) bud and while the potency is definitely there the taste is not. I have a Wicked Sands 12" beaker with an Alex K Showerhead downstem but I have heard larger volume pieces have the same problem as smaller ones with too much diffusion. Same problem with my Apix stemline. So now I am in the market for a small oil rig (18mm) and was looking for some suggestions. The only problem is my fiance is ready to kill me if I buy another piece so I need to keep it as cheap as possible.
Any suggestions?

I got a triple chamber bong with major diffusion. the smoke goes through water 5 times. still tastes pretty damn good to me. not crazy strong like straight off the hotknife. but tasty as hell still. try again and see if its different. sounds like this is your first oil/time using that rig.

Not my first time with concentrates but this was my first time making BHO and my first time dabbing. I am going to make another batch of BHO early next week though so I will be trying again soon bongsmilie Thanks for the quick reply!

ive heard that the heat of the nail changes things too. as well as the bud being used in the first place, and the size of the hoot, cleanliness of the bong + bong water, how purged the oil is, etc...

When heating the nail I heat it until red hot then allow it to cool off until there is only a faint glow. The bud was at the higher grade, lets say headies. I rinse all my pieces after each use and once a week I clean them with ISO. Purging the oil could have been my problem. I heated water using a 5 gallon tea maker until it was to hot to touch then pored it into a cooler. Then I floated my Pyrex dish in the cooler for about 45 minutes. There were no more bubbles forming and I don't taste any butane but I'm not sure how to be certain.

thats a good way to purge, although it can/should be purged more before smoking it.

its sometimes not about the quality of the bud, but moreso the taste that makes a tasty oil. potent oil is another story.

depending on how much butane you used, sometimes its best to switch that water out with fresh hot stuff half ways through the cook off (be careful, this is the most dangerous part of BHO.. when all that butane is in the air, pooling, down low. butane doesnt rise up. and then after your 45 minute wait is done (I only wait 5 or 10) then you can bring it inside and further purging it in the dish. I used to turn the stove on and hover the dish above the hot element, sometimes I boil water and set the dish in the boiling water. sometimes I just let it sit for a few days. I would guess those 3 methods get it to around 97-98% purged. although ive learned that they are too hot. the water should be boiling (230F) if you want 99%+ then a vacuum chamber might be required. correct me if im wrong someone.

not too sure about the taste though. I find that some hash hoot taste gross, whereas the same hash will taste awesome the next time around. I think there is a lot of variables, not so much with dabbing oil, but theyre still there. try experimenting, maybe try a bigger hoot, and dont suck too hard on your bong. I find with mine you barely need to pull while dabbing.. gets the smoke nice and thick and not much air intoduced into it. once the oil is all done smoking and burning off, hit it hard. should produce a nice thick, tasty hoot... unless your product/starting bud isnt tasty.
