Any journals or info on light movers? They seem worth it, but I am trying to learn more about them before I buy one.

Any info from people who have used them or can post a link to a journal with one is much appriciated.

Its wierd, I see threads all the time where people say they use light movers but Ive never seen pics of them in use. I dont want to ask the guys at the hydro shop because they are full of shit.

All depends all how much area your trying to cover. I ran one for a while with 2 1000w in a 10x10 room. I was running 4ft parabolic shields, and only had them moving about 3ft total worked ok better than not having one I was able to put in another 4 girls.

Do the motors on the movers last a long time?
How much Electricity do they use?
What is a good brand?
Do they increase yields significantly?

I cant find any info on em, that makes me think I shouldnt get one.

Not a lot of people really use them. They just get more lights.
As far as the motors go I really couldn't tell ya I only ran mine for about 6 months. I'd imagine it depended on how much weight your putting on it. Mine will hold three shields wide that would put more of a strain on the motor I'm sure.
Electricity didn't matter I had 2 hps 1000w plus a 15000 btu a/c going so I didn't notice the difference. Already 400+
Yield I would say was better. You just gotta make sure that your not trying to move it so far that the other half of your room is in the darkness for to long. I had mine in a 10x10 only moving about 4ft total with 4ft shields is was pretty good coverage.
As far a good brand I just picked it up at my local hydro shop. So I don't know if it would last years.
Anyway hope any of this helps.

Okay light movers are neat toys.....but a lot of people tend to believe you can increase your coverage area with them but this is not the case.......they are only good to use to create different angles with light to help penetrate plant's canopies and distribute light more evenly.....I have a Light Rail that has been in use for 2.5 years maybe 3....non stop......I haven't replaced any parts yet .......over all they are nice to own and does increase your yield somewhat, but again it does not increase the light footprint just helps distribute light more effectively....

How much Electricity do they use? Very little
What is a good brand? LightRail 3.5 and ONLY light rail, Dont fall for the hydrofarm chain ones, there cheaper and have a 75% return rate (the most returned item actually)
Do they increase yields significantly? They are excellent because you can move them closer to the plants and they wont burn your plant because they will move over it.

A couple a recco's: Use the delay switch on it to pause it at the ends of the rail because it goes over the middle of your plants twice as much as the center, so its vital for even growth. Also if your using just one XL reflector you should purchase a Robostick to turn it sideways to get more width from your coverage. If your going to attach multiple reflectors to one bar, than you should go with the smallest aircooled reflectors because you are taking their more concentrated footprint and moving it over multiple plants.
It also helps if you have some form of supplemental lighting such as T5 sidelighting or low wattage metal halides so it can keep a high Photo Metabolism.

I don't think its practical if you have a small grow. if your pots are too heavy to move or for some reason you couldn't move them then it would be a good idea.

if you get one look into this

wow that is sick, I dont ever use more than 1 light for my flower room though. I stay within me and the roomates plant limit. Where did you hear they are a scam? Seems beneficial to be able to have your HPS closer to the canopy without worrying about burning but i dont really know shit about it otherwise i wouldnt have made this thread.

I keep hearing they are a scam and you should just get more lights.

What is a scam is how they are marketed.......they make it seem that these light movers will increase your light footprint but they don't they just are ideal at spreading the light in the same amount of space more effectively which will slightly increase yield........when I first bought my light rail I was under the impression that I was going to be able to increase my light area from a 4x4 area to a 4x8 area just by adding the light rail but what I didn't realize is that when the light is a 1 end the other end is not receiving the optimum amount of light.....resulting in long internode spacing....which is not ideal....
