I wanna try breeding...

First I would like to say, that I have looked through several books and online forums to find this information and haven' seemed to find it. Not to say it isn't out there but I can't find it. So basically, here is the question at hand.
I have access to several strains and "regular" (male and female) seeds and I want to try my hand at breeding. Does it matter which plant you use for the male and female? For example, if I use pineapple express for the male and gorilla glue #4 for the female, would I get the same results doing the inverse? There is much more that I want to know but find this to be a nice jump off point.

Question 1) Yes we were trolling you for being a noob

Question 2) No, Dreger only knew about the "like" button.

Dreger would have liked your post because he was an "like" addict. He's in recovery now and we may yet see him again I believe. But no, he would not have answered your question.

Back on topic. Yes, you can breed any male to any female and vice versa. You can force a female to produce male pollen and hit a clone of that same female with the pollen that the other female produced and create "fem" seeds of that exact same plant called S1's.

There are many people around here who know a hell of a lot more than me tho. Maybe they will answer :blsmoke:

pollen chucking is where you start. Crossing two dissimilar strains produces a first filial generation or F1 cross. The F1 cross will typically have lots of variations and expressions depending on the parents. Crossing the male of one strain into the female of another is NOT typically the same in reverse and that could be summed up as being due to the differences in phenotypes and expressions even in some heavily worked strains. My point is every single plant you grow is genetically different from even another of the same strain (unless its a clone), not to mention the variability in genetic traits that could crop up at ANY point in the breeding process.
Hit up Chucker's Paradise in the seed and strain reviews section and get chucking. Share your progress. Sharing is caring.

I think they just got excited. We all get excited when some says to us "I wanna try breeding".
Of course last time I responded to that line I ended up married so be careful how you respond.
Welcome aboard TwistD...be seeing you.

Chucking pollen = box of chocolates, especially if the parents aren't stable.
You're better off to start with a proven strain that's been worked by a breeder until it is stable, or a pure landrace.
If you create a new strain by breeding F1s, don't expect a lot of consistency or uniformity.

I appreciate the gentle trolling. ;) and thanks for information and a direction for more information. BTW just cuz I wanna try breeding, doesn't mean I'm new to growing. ;) breeding is an advanced technique imho. Hope all is well and again thanks for info.

I also want to be a noob.chucker haha

I have heard to try to mix strains that share some of the same lineage

Hopefully in a few weeks ill be trying to reverse an auto and hit other females of the same strain to get some autos seeds stock piled :)
We have short summers with long days that make autos easier for outdoors

Chuckers paradise is a great thread to pick up some knowledge nuggets

Other than that welcome

Welcome TwistD!!

You have certainly come to the best site for your journey. The people on here are unbelievable!!

Creating your own seeds is one part of such an awesome journey around this lovely plant.

I did the male, female thing. Then last fall I got into CS and STS on some Maui Waui and JH plants. The STS method was for me the simpler of the two.

This years grow I am particularly interested in watching a plant growing in a soil I mixed up. The plant was a bag seed that I grew last year. Turned out being an auto that had dark red hairs throughout the grow. I pollinated it with some purple sativa pollen. Took one of those seeds, lucky for me it ended up being female, and pollinated it with some STS Jack Herer pollen. She’s doing quite fine!!
