I am now into the 7th week of flowering. Critical Kush...buds looks nice, Trichome (sp) when viewed with 100 X microscope look nice, not degrading or amber as the "book " says to look for. I am growing hydroponically. Do
I now just run plain water with no nutrients? and then the last 48 hours with no light as the "book" says? The "book" is not specific with regard to growing in dirt vs. hydoponic. Pistals are starting to turn brown.

Thanks in advance for any help out there.

Your waiting for harvest right? You should wait until some percentage of your trics change amber. What percentage that is will impact the affects. If they are all clear it is probably to soon to harvest, you could be losing out on a large amount of flower if you do. Going strictly by the pistals is probably not a good idea, though as you get more experience you may be able to.

The amount of amber you wait for is up to you.
To a certain extent, it will have a bearing on what your end result is, but the majority of what you smoke will be a result of strain and genetics.
If you're only in the 7th week, do you plan to go 8 or 9 weeks?
No pics, and lack of info make it hard to suggest anything accurate.
If pistils just starting to turn brown, I would GUESS you got at least another 2 weeks to go, and therefore, go ahead and feed a little longer.

First, do you know the range of flower time for your strain? Next, what you are looking for are milky/amber hues inside the swelled heads of the capitate stalked trichomes. Thirdly, the calyxs will swell to an almost seeded size when finished. Pistils begin to change color sometimes in the third week. A good rule of thumb is, if you think it's done, let it go for another week. You'll be rewarded for your patience.

As far as the end flush of your crop, run pure water or a flush product for 48 hours or so and then let them sit with no water over night before harvest. This will speed up the drying/curing process. If you want, the second day of flushing can be done in the dark to give you the extended dark period of 36-48 hours.

Hi, thanks for your reply. In looking up the specifics of the gentics of critical Kush, Barneys seeds says flower time 55-60 days (my eight week sumation) So that I undersand you clearly;keep checking my trichomes, and when a small???? percentage is amber then
do the plain water thing in my hydroponic tank for the last week prior to harvest?

Whatever you find published about a particular strain is an estimate, under optimal conditions.
For the average grower, I would guess adding on another week would be close to a good harvest, but probably still early.
Use your judgement, eyes, and common sense, but the first few harvests may be difficult until you find out how much amber (if any) you want.
Some guys wait for amber, and others tolerate the amber knowing that with the development of amber, the number of clear is reduced as the bud is maturing.
