that tells me what it's made of, i need to know what kind.

from a pot still, i made sour mash. the problem is that i used an eight gallon boiler and 5 gallon mash buckets/carboys(6.7 actual, but i fill to 5 gallons). so i would have to make 50 gallons of mash to get a real yield(sour mash is about 4-12% alcohol of that 1-8% ethanol) and on top of that it would take forever to finish. i may still have the recipe, but it's easier for me to just link you to the amazing site where i learned. http://homedistiller.org/grain/wash-grain2/sourmash

i preferred making white lightning. i still have the parts, and plan on making more mash when i ramp my grow room. it will let me mash in the grow room so i can use the fermenters as a co2 generator.

im planning on making a new fractionating still as i still have most of the parts. but i want to buy a stainless 8 gallon boiler so i can do an electrical build. it would let me plug into the wall and do all the work for me. hell, i can make a 4' fractional column and set the boiler on a stand 4" off the ground. i could then distill in my bedroom. not only that, but i could use all my old copper parts for the column and a triclover clamp to connect to the stainless boiler.

95%+ will be as easy as turning on a speed controller and my mini fridge cooler for reflux. i miss shinin.

i prefer a sugar or honey based mash. it can get alcohol content up to 25%(10-20% ethanol) before distillation. it is also insanely cheaper and easier to make. With a fractional still, you can make anything. it all depends on how you tune your reflux.

sorry, i love making shine. i think i went a little overboard. i have nobody who respects the hobby that i can talk to. the distillation forums are full of shitty people.

EDIT: if you know what you are doing i apologize, but if you are just getting into it, i would love to offer assistance as far as setup and technique.

The best build in my opinion, would be a stainless milk can boiler and a stainless vapor control fractional column.

I also want you to have a book. I'll see if I can find a way to send it.

ok, i can send it the method of your choice. it's a .pdf at 11.5mb.

or if you know how to torrent, you can get a copy on piratebay.

"The Compleat Distiller"

it is the best book on distilling available. print it out and sit down with your brother and read it before buying anything.

the vapor control column is the best head you can get for a still. it can be used for everything from making low abv distillate to pure white.

i dont know the size, but there are over a dozen options. stupid cheap too.

https://milehidistilling.com/product/8-gallon-heavy-duty-milk-can-with-2-dome-lid-npt-fitting-and-2-ferruled-fitting/
larger sizes available

https://moonshinedistiller.com/stainless-steel-milk-can-boiler-8-gallon2-opening
larger sizes available. more options.

before buying, contact the manufacturers. they will gladly help you get started.

in the book, you will find builds for columns. i suggest soldering a copper one together with a triclover clamp on the bottom. toss a gasket on it, and install a clamp. easy to tear down for cleaning. you can build amazing columns for less than $300.

linked are some basic drawings and a template for a bokabob head.

a how to.

sorry, i can literally do this all day.

ok, i split and compressed the book. select both when you unzip.

Thanks. I'll post some recipes later. I'm out making a slush fund atm.

I haven't been able to do it in about 5 years. Once my grow room is done, I'll be working on a slush fund for making a new still.

New Zealand and Australia distilling is legal. Plenty information and helpful people on those forums. My still was from Brewhaus dot com.

Main problem I had with it was the amount of work required to brew a jug of booze and in my case lousy booze. 5 gallon mash using regular brewing yeast opposed to turbo yeast really doesnt result in very much product.

First run was a straight corn mash using cracked corn, had a terrible time with fermentation on this one. Probably why the final product was only useful as a solvent.
Second run was blackstrap Molasses and unrefined cane sugar. Fermentation was perfect. But in a stupid attempt at making it drinkable quicker i decided to spice it then run it through the still again. ruined.....

using lalvin k1-v1116 and ec-1118 brewing yeast, i have obtained in excess of 20% abv mash.

turbo yeast actually lies in what it does. yes, it ferments faster, but it doesn't produce high ethanol levels like quality brewing yeast will. you end up with more fusels and methanol. i have seen people take welches and add sugar and turbo yeast. this will get the abv over 20% in a day or two, but will give you the worst hangover of your life.

without proper aging and mellowing, all distillate tastes like shit. this is why i like making vodka/white lightning from sugar and honey based distilling wines with a fractionating column. it allows you to separate heads and tails without smearing. much cleaner taste. also, by removing heads and tails, you don't get a hangover like with whiskey and strong beer.

the difficulty you mentioned, is easy to fix once you get used to making mash. i fully suggest making beer and wine first so you can learn good technique in mashing. i made wine for almost 6 months before i setup my first still.

stanless boller is the way to go and a thumper stanless between it and the copper worm....fruit or berrys make the best shine witch is called brandy. I been doing it for 40 years and my father and grandfather as well did it till the day they died.500 gallen boller 20 gallon thumper 1 and a half inch worm.8- 55 gallen barles boiled at a time...........................................................ky...............corn wiskey is good but brandy taste beater and brings more money pergalon..75 pounds of suger and 10 gallen of fruit or berrys perbarol.hope you can read my shity writing.ps if you was in ky I would show you what good shin is..

That is some great advice.

My favorite wine is grapes, oranges, and sugar. For better flavor I use the Lanvin k1-v1116 yeast at about 16-18% abv.

I use bread yeast for 99 percent of wine yeast kills the alcole at about 6-8 percent.try fast acking bread yeast and you will like it beater if you like your wine stout like we do here.
