Personally, I never trust those plastic things with much weight, or anything important. Just my opinion. I'd go with a board spanning two joists. Once you find one, the other joists should be spaced 18" apart from each other... though in an old house you might find 24" spacing (mine's 100 yrs. old, and has that).
Also, I made mine so I can adjust the height as plants get taller...
You'll need:
Two hooks (threads on one side, hook on the other).
A pulley.
Some small nylon rope.
A few feet of small chain.
(You can get all of the above at a hardware store. It's all inexpensive. Check the weight limits for the rope and chain, and don't get anything much bigger than you need.)
Put one hook in the board spanning the joists.
Put the other one on a wall around shoulder level.
Tie the rope to your hood.
Hang the pulley on the ceiling hook.
Run the free end of the rope through the pulley.
Tie the other end of the rope to a few feet of chain.
Hook the chain to the hook on the wall - It should give you three feet of height adjustment, depending on which part of the chain you hook on.
Hopefully that makes sense. It's easier than it might sound, and it works out great.
I can get a picture if you want.
