I know when to water, but how much???

I tried searching everywhere but I can't get a straight answer. My plants are still pretty young and they are in 5 gallon pots. I know when to water and I let the top completely dry out and the first 2 inches. When it's time to water however, how much water do I give them? Keep watering until it starts draining from the bottom? Or is there a ratio like half of the the pot size or something like that?? Help please
 
you said it yourself ... untill you see runn off ..

tho when you know how much that is roughly you can stop in time so to speak ..

I know my 7 gallon pots take a gallon evry seccon day .. if I water more I get run off ..
 
Well 4 me there r no set amount to water ur plants u just water em enuf so u get some run off from the bottom of ur pots. I think my pots r around 3-5 gallon I forget right this moment cause I'm stoned and I usually water around 3/8 so just over a quart of water or 6 cups give or take I just eyeball it.

Thanks for the replies guys. I guess I overwatered today because the plant looked like this after I watered it. Got all droopy on me....WOOPS!!!

u dont think watering a young till u see run off is way to much water?
