Yep, the government lies to get keep its money flowing. If the war on pot ever stopped, they would lose their excuse to waste billions of dollars.
They started the lie decades ago and now are stuck perpetuating it. There are lots of people that once bought it hook, line and sinker that now look at "the facts" with a healthy dose of salt.
Just be ready for no change to take place. The status quo is just too profitable for the government to ever let go.
