i am so very new at this and just need some good advise!!

hey guys,

i am so very new at this growing thing ay, please hear my little naive mind out..

i actually picked some seeds out of a smoke one night and i thought it mite be funny to shove it into a elongated pot while i was having a few , not thinking it would grow... but 7 days later one germinated...

im not really intrested in spending to much money on a indoor set up but do have great climate outdoors where i live.... (maybe i could shift it in and out, gets cold at night here)

just wondering now what do i do now????? :)

ive currently got the pot sitting in my 2 car garage for tonight, as it is pissing raining outside and i don't want to drown it... temperature is 16c probebly wont get any colder... there is a window its in front of it..

i know all you guys on this forum really no ya stuff, and your going to laugh at my innocense here... :)

how big is the seedling now,,,,and as long as its in a pot you can move it any where you want, wouldnt put her in the pooring rain just yet...i would keep feeding it water until it was about 1ft-18 inches in height, then hit it with a litttle 20-20-20 fertilizer(from walmart or whatever) once a week after that, i alternate with fert feedings, and every other feeding i give it water, but fert at least once a week..and you can keep it rite in front of the window and bring it out any day you can...so by then it should be 2ft, and doing great, then transplant in bigger 5 gallon bucket , or into the ground...into the ground in my opinion is best for size and yeild..good luck.

try starting here.. theres a thread somewhere [i thought it was stickied] called "how to grow marijuana"
you aren't going to get answers to the amount of knowledge you need to obtain on this thread

thank you so much for your help i really appriciate it ay...

ok, today i just realised that another one has sprouted so now i have two.. the first one has a flower on the top and is about 3cm high ( i no its just the beginning) and the other one hasn't quite flowered (still has seed on the top, bout 2cm high)

i just read on pp post that some one has commented that i should just look up how to grow it, but after a lot of research there is a lot of conflicting methods for growing and that is why i wanted to join a forum to get quick, effective, try ed and tested techniques.

you talk about fertilising it once every week, i actually have fertiliser seeds siting in the pot with it? is this a problem...
im going to re pot them tomorrow as i brought some bigger pots today. i read somewhere that you have 5-7 days to replant as anytime after this would stress them out to much...
i also read that if im going to give it straight tap water, you need to let it sit in the container for 24 hours for the sediments to settle and the chlorine to evaporate, and to only water the plant if the top soil is drying out... is this what you do?? have you herd this before...

well if its going to get the out door light than just stick it out during the day all of the daylight that u can and than if the season change and the daylight hours get shorter than it will start to flower try at least 16 of day light than 8 hours of dark everyday feeding it rain water till u get more info about growing and ph levels rain water has good ph levels tap water and bottle water dont when the plants get big enough switch them over to 12 hours of daylight and 12 of dark no light at all and soon you have bud long story short

Hi Treehugger,

Well this is a nice situation to be in. You are down under which means you are coming into summer and you have two little seedlings to play with. If I were you and you feel safe enough to plant them outside I would take advantage of mother nature.

I can see you don't want to have to read a novel so the best thing to do is the following:

Keep them at you windowsill or outside if the rain isn't battering down. Keep them in a litre of half litre pot until you can see roots growing out of the bottom of the pot.

If you are using soil bought from a store it will have some feed in it so my advise at the moment is just to give it water every couple of days. Water the pots, lift them and remember how heavy they feel. When they feel light in weight you need to water them.

When the roots are showing through, double the size of your pot.

There are basically two stages, Veg (growth of the plant) and flower (production of buds) The veg part starts at the begining of spring and then when your days start to get shorter, this is when the plant will flower. When the plant starts flowering you should definitely think about getting some sort of feed for it. You can also induce flowering on your plant by restricting it to 12 hours of light every day and 12 hours of dark.

Keep it simple and it will work. Don't get bogged down on your first grow with too many nutes and fertiliser and techniques. Get comfortable growing them and then you will never look back.

Good luck with it, I am sure if you are a smoker you will enjoy this part of the culture as well.

Peace,

DST

thanks guys, you make it sound so easy...
guess ill just have to give it a go, an stop stressing ay..

whats the average time from germination to flowing? how tall should i expect it to get?

roughly 3 months.

how tall do you want it to get.

If it's a sativa dominant plant it will be very tall. Sativas have long thin leaves and come from tropical areas of the world generally.

If it's a Indica dominant plant then they are shorter. These tend to come from mountainous regions like afghan, nepal, etc.

It's going to get as big as the pot and sun youi have growing on it wants it to get. If growing outdoors and starting at the beginning of the season exp0ect anything up to 6foot and over.

There are ways to shorten plants but that involves training the branches. If you feel you are ready then there will be loads of people on RIU to help you along with that. Various methods include, LST, SuperCropping, Topping, Fimming to name the most common.

the specific thread im talking about is a sticky or something on THIS forum.. im saying, that covers all the basics. organic soil, water, untes and sunlight.. simple. its a plant itll grow like crazy if the medium is sufficient

6ft or over crikey!!

its a sativa im pretty sure, dont think ive herd of the indica in my 12 years of smoking, or maybe ive been to bent to realise:)....

how strick do i have to be with the day/night routine? would it be affected if the garage lights were switched on and off at night (we use it as a thoroughfare sometimes)

any specific points to remember when repotting it?

thanks again man
