I am back again with more problems, please help!

Hi guys,

I am posting here a few pics of my plants discoloration in the upper part of the leaves as well as burn and curled tips.

1- they need to be fed ASAP, but I did not want to do this as three of the four plants are only 20 days old, broke ground from seed on 12/22/2011.

2- Can PH be too high at 7.0, this is the reading I get on my water and soil tests.

3- the biggest plant wich is 33 days old, broke ground from seed on 12/10/2011 definately need to be fed but I didn´t want to do this until I get some advice, as I have already had to flush it due to nutrient burn.

I have been watering every week on Monday (tap water, PH 7.0) for the past two weeks after.

My soil is a compund of worm castings, seabird guano and organic matter.

Growing under a 90W LED under an 18-6 hour period inside a cabinet, temperatures go from 24-29C (74.2 - 84.2).

They do not look healthy and would like to get some advice from all those experience growers out there to be able to save them.

Thanks.

Be careful what you ask for~
How big of a pot are they in?
They really need to be fed but
don't you really want a sure fix?

I am not sure what you mean by what I ask for but they are on one gallon pots... understand that english is not my native language and I am not sure either what you meant either by a sure fix, thanks for posting and I am expecting your answers.

Well, IMHO they are suffocating. How dense is the soil? It looks like thick mud. If it were my grow, I would transplant into the pot I want them to finish at. And this time add at least 30% if not more inert perlite to the mix. They have a lot of nutes in your mix already, they just are not getting it because there is no oxygen to bring it into the plants. Good Luck.

Unless you have a lot of compost in there, those worm castings are way to dense for roots to penetrate easily. Use no more than 25% worm castings in the mix. How much Seabird Guano is in there? Doesn't sound like a very balanced nutrient regimen. You're probably light in P and K.

Hey, thanks for your post, the thing is I cannot find perlite around here but I have thought too that root aeration might be a problem. my plan was to see how many females I would get, as this are bagseeds, and then possibly transplant them to bigger pots. The soil is very dense man and I just fed them with 50% of 30.10.10 (NPK) as I did not know what to else to do...

That is compounding the problem. You have enough N from the EWC and guano. You need to boost the P and K a bit. That and get some drainage and air to those roots!!!

Well, how can we help if you do not wait for some answers and just feed them because maybe they are under-fed. Sorry but I don't really feel up to sugar coating tonight. If you need help with your grow we are here to help and provide as much reliable info to you as we can offer.

But if your plants are having problems because of something that has gone wrong, don't just guess at what they want or need. That is probably what got you into this too start with.

Anyway, re-pot them ASAP. If you do not have perlite available...please find something to use in it's abscense. If you want to know what that may be I suggest a search with perlite replacement as key words. HMMMM perhaps put some styrofoam cups in a blender and chop the shit out of them... Best of Luck!

The soil seems to be very dense to me but I used what was available to me in stores around here... I used 1/3 of each and thanks for your input.

Hey man, thanks as I do not need any sugar coating, just plain help. I had to guess as I panicked and no one had replied yet. I think you are all right about the soil. I did use styrofoam in my mixing but maybe not enough.

I did some research before feeding them and it all pointed towards under feed and/or high PH.

Thanks for your post!

Its a bad idea to give seedlings any food. I don't even start feeding at 20 days just tap water, coco, peat, perlite and patience. if you cant get perlite. can you get rice hulls? rice hulls are cheaper, renewable and biodegradable. they sell them at feed stores as animal bedding. craft stores have those little styrofoam balls pumice works and don't float.

You are very welcome...and the under feed and ph issues are both directly related to the plants not being able to breath and suck the nutrients from the medium ergo over salinity and ph issues.

Please click the link in my signature, great videos from Master growers for 1st timers. Good Luck. Just out of curiosity where is it you live that has no place to get perlite?

Hi man, I have very few options available for feeding my plants so I have 30.10.10, 20.20.20 and 10.50.10, they all have micro nutrients but do not specify in which levels. Like I said I already fed them with 50% 30.10.10. I will wait for a few days to see how they react and then I would probably change the soil.

Thanks for your input!

Hi Man, I can get rice hulls and I actually thought about using them before growing but decided to go with Styrofoam instead...

Get some potting soil at a nursery or garden center that has NO NUTES added. They will almost always have a basic, no frills "house brand" potting soil. Then transplant them into a 25% EWC 75% soil mix. They are big enough that you could actually cut the rootball back a bit to eliminate a lot of the old soil. THEN start feeding the chemical nutes, but only at half strength MAX. Anything else you do at this point is wasting time and harming the plants more than helping them. Be sure and add lime to the soil, as that will buffer the soils pH for the duration of your grow, making pH worries a thing of the past.

Thanks again my man and I will definitely check on your link. I live I central america, rather not say in which country.

I can get perlite and all the stuff you guys use in the US via Amazon but as they are imported they are subject to tax and if you add shipping and handling it gets very expensive.

Hi man, what does EWC stands for? for some reason I decided to use organic nutes what is the benefit from chemical vs. organic?

Thanks!

OH Damn dude, thats all ya had to say!! Can you get out into the jungle any? If you can get a bit out there, get out and dig up all you want of the soil. I know Guatemala, and that is PERFECT soil for the top 18" or so. It has to be pretty close to what you have available. I wouldn't worry too much about pests, you can always bake the soil since you are using chem ferts any way. But shit, If I were you, I'd use indigenous soil, and go organic!!!

EWC = Earth Worm Castings

You need to make friends with the locals, and find yourself some good Sativa Landraces. They got it going ON down there!! They can also teach you a great deal about growing as well, especially the Mayas.
