Hydroton - How to properly pre soak

Hello members,

This will be my 1st dwc attempt using hydroton. My question is, what’s your all expert options and or methods of preparing the hydroton? I have already washed the shit dust off of them. Now, do I soak them in ph water? R/O water? Do I add nutes to the water so that the hydroton absorbs it? If so how much. How long do I soak them for? Before I put them into the PH water, can I clean them with a little bleach water? And help on this would be greatly appreciated and if there are other suggestions, please feel free to give me your feed back. Thanks!

When I was doing hydro with hydroton as the medium I had a five gallon bucket with holes drilled around the sides and bottom. I'd fill it up and run the hose through it until the water was clear. I then soaked them overnight in Ph'd 1/8 - 1/4 strength nutrient solution. I'd put my clones in and run my reservoir at 1/4 strength nutes and build up strength as the plants got larger. It's been awhile but I never had any issues. I got tired of cleaning them for reuse and I didn't want to put them in the garden so I switched to coco. If you reuse them I'd soak them in a solution of 35% food grade H202. You'll never get all the crap out of them though.

Good luck.

Thx, that’s a good idea with the holes in the bucket method
