Hydro growers, stop looking for calcium without nitrogen.

Calcium nitrate is your choice, period.

Aquaponic nuts, don't even bother responding about your calcium chloride. This isn't fish it up.

I've been using calcium nitrate as my nitrogen source for years. It's great for growing in coco. It provides all the calcium needed. I've never used a drop of calmag despite all the people saying it's a must have for growing in coco. I use it from start to finish.

Did you run calcium chloride and get performance issues?
I've never used calcium chloride to provide Ca because I wouldn't be able to get enough N without calcium nitrate. Calcium nitrate is the primary source of nitrate in most hydroponic mixes because you can only use so much potassium nitrate before you have way too much K. There are 2 nitrates for every calcium ion but only 1 nitrate for every potassium. You get almost enough K just by using mono potassium phosphate for P and thus only need a little bit of potassium nitrate.

I'm working on getting off the bottle and looking into the hydro buddy action.. I've had good luck with it (calcium chloride)as it's just another calcium source. I would be interested in finding a lab to see input and output data regarding which the plant is choosing. I've been facilitating amonical nitrates via the grow bottle instead of the run of the mill calcium nitrate. I will say the calcium chloride is a lot harder on pumps and lines etc. Not savvy enough for hydro buddy yet so I've been running cutting edge with great effect. Read the reverse engineering thread now just need to take the plunge. Great to see a master chemist out here showing the way.
