There are a tooooon of HPS light brands. I see alot have mixed reviews on amazon.
Im looking for a 600 watt or 1000 watt digital HPS with a hood that has air cooling holes.

So far i would only trust my good old buddies at HTG supply or on amazon i might try VIVOSUN.

anyone ever had the digtial HPS from VIVOsun

You may find a deal on a HPS setup on craigslist. Probably need a new bulb tho. I haven't tried a vivosun product so I dunno if they are good or bad.

IMO
#1 Sunlight Supply
#2 Hydrofarm
C.A.P. = crap
all else are no name brands probably produced by the same cheap inferior Chinese manufacturer cashing in on the green rush.

Getting a quality bulb is probably the most important decision you can make with HPS. Going with cheap bulbs will end up being an expensive choice as they rarely are still viable after one or two runs. All of a sudden plants seem to stop growing....I had plants that were "on hold" for two weeks before I realized the bulbs were the culprits.

I like Ushio or Hortilux. Both are relatively pricey compared to the cheap ones out there, but my plants flourish under them. I swap bulbs every six months in my perpetual garden.

Never used a light from vivosun. But I use their inline fans and a bunch of other products. I don’t have issue with their line up of stuff at all.

If you have a hydro store within driving distance I would recommend going there for lights or keeping an extra ballast and bulb on hand. Warranty don’t mean shit if your stuff sitting in dark waiting a week on replacement. Also I’ve figured that most hydro stores just put prices on stuff for people too scared or embarrassed to just ask for the real price. I hardly ever pay full price for things at my regular store, unless it’s just small items that I’d feel to petty telling them it’s priced too high.

If that’s not an option you wanna go with then like I said just keep an extra ballast and bulb around. If I was to trust a cheap amazon ballast it would be the Apollo brand. I do like the digital greenhouse ones from htg also, had them 10 plus years ago and gave them to a friend and he still using a few of them. I also like the easy cool 6 air cooled hood from htg supply for a cheap ac option.

Agreed. I always keep a new spare on the shelf.

You know maybe it is "the grass is always greener, on the other side of the fence" thing but
I grow with 3- 600's instead of the 2 -1k I ran before and I keep wanting to try these double 630 CMH
Just something to think about

Growers choice makes a DE 600 CMH bulb that runs on a HPS ballast, either a 600 watt ballast or a 1kW ballast dimmed to 60%. I have one in my room, testing it next to a 1kW DE HPS. One thing though, that bulb wont strike an arc on my Phantom ballasts and it says not to use with a nanolux ballast but it did work good on my Sun system ballast.

I went with the 3k+R version https://growershouse.com/growers-choice-630w-de-double-ended-cmh-ceramic-mh-lamp-3100k

Yeah one of my rooms has 6 phantoms and the other 3 nanolux and 3 sunsystems lol
I was running Solis Tek but the 600 MH would fail to fire periodically and the manufacture offered no resolution except a new one , I have been happy with the phantoms

ok yea i went to my local store and they have pretty good prices on hoods and other things. I think i may buy my light from htg and everything else from local.

i would buy a 600watt and 400watt but that wouldnt be cost efficient to get this thing rolling. I can add lights and change the setup after i get it going.

Yeah my phantoms have been good, no failures so far. I started with all nanolux and they kept dying, I did the warranty exchange on about 7 of them before I just gave up and started changing them out to the phantoms as they died off. lol Then the store started carrying the sun system ballasts at a good price and I started getting those, eventually I can see the other 3 nanolux ballasts dying and being replaced with sun system.
