HPS for tiny area

The small HPSs are not very efficient. I'd spec a slightly larger box so you can get a four-tube two-foot T5 into there. Jmo. cn

I am runnning cfl but I want to put in one HPS because I hear that buds are airy with just CFL.
Right now running 4X 27 watt cfl with one socket empty for a total of five E26 sockets. There is also a Mogul E-40 socket for my 200W 6500K cfl. When the seedlings get bigger I'll add the 200W and take out two of the 27watts. So there are 6 Sockets in the box (5 X E26, 1 X E40 Mogul)
For flowering I have a 2700K cfl but I want to throw a small hps to help. It won't be alone.
It's an old mini fridge and it's already up and running with the lights and fans. I've invested a pretty penny into this already so I can't just throw it out for a bigger box now.
If I use a larger HPS in the mogul it'll be WAY too hot so that's why I need a smaller one. It's got lots of mylar in there too so I think it'll help just enough.
So to reiterate: What is the lowest watt hps? Does it need a ballast? Does it fit in a regular E26 medium light socket?

all hps need a ballast.. i believe the smallest wattage is 150 watt, and no, they don't fit into a normal socket, they require a mogul socket..

All HPSs need ballasts because they run at a higher voltage. You can get bulbs and ballasts down to 35 watts. In your grow, I'd choose a 100 and supplement with cfl. The ballasts are cheap if you don't mind some fabricatin'. cn

So they exist in 100W? I don't mind putting those small ballasts together, doesn't seem to complicated unless solder is required. I don't have any electronic solder exp.
Plus I could just get an E26 to E40 mogul base adapter to avoid rewiring everything again, couldn't I?
Would regular hardware stores carry all this?

You're best off wiring directly to a Mogul base imo. And I don't think you'll need to solder. I recently discovered the epically awesome invention: the wire nut. You think I kid? I was bowled over! i was thinking the same thing about just wiring straight to a mogul cannabineeer.. i don't really see the need to do it the way the op was talking about either..

Well If I get another mogul base, I need to wire it and screw it in and crap. Meaning I have to take everything out of the box to get that done...
Like I said, it's running, got stuff inside.
So I assume the power flow goes from: Power Supply - Ballast - Socket - Light?
i was thinking the same thing about just wiring straight to a mogul cannabineeer.. i don't really see the need to do it the way the op was talking about either..
