In a 4x2x5ft tall tent with a 400 or 600w HPS would you need a cool tube or could it be sufficiently cooled with just a larger shop fan etc.

if you are using a grow tent then you will need to vent as either of these lamps will generate alot of heat and within no time you could have 40C heat to remove

if you use a cool tube it still has to vented to work

It would be difficult to maintain the temp. for sure. That is alot of light for an area of that size. If you plan to keep the grow in the tent maybe look at two small smaller MH/HPS setups or go with tubes and CFL's. You would have as much or more from a watt perspective and cooling/venting is easier and cheaper.

Yep, you'll definately want a cooltube or air cooled hood for one of those lights in such a small space.

Wow thanks for all the quick replies

Yeah I figured as much
I will prolly just make a quick cool tube with a bake-a-round.
How powerful of a fan should I get for the light ducting?
